On 08/22/2010 I logged on to Paypal to open an account. Filled out all the forms, got approved, then was asked to upgrade my account. After completing that I was sent to a Creditcard application which I filled out as PP said I can get money from their system faster. After that form was filled out I was denied The creditcard. Later that same day my wife went to the store to buy $60.00 of food and could not as my bank account was ripped off. I called PP and filed a complaint and sent them the info plus I had to file a complaint with my bank and a police report. GEMB (GE Moneybank) gave my info to Mysecurewallet.com Uitgeest NL US (Netherlands) and to Moneybookers London totaling $330.57

You state..

"I started out with Paypal.com It had the lock on the screen even when I did the creditcard form."

I do not enjoy questioning your integrity, but did you enter the paypal web address manually into your web browser..or did you click on a link? The lock on the screen and paypal logos etc mean nothing. My 8 year old nephews could make a fake page by pasting a copy of a paypal logo and secure lock in minutes. The only way to know for sure you are on an authentic website..is by entering the correct address in the browser.

If you enter a wrong address, scammers have been know to make fake websites by changing a letter or two around and get your info. So you really need to be so careful these days. There is nothing PayPal can do to prevent anyone from making a counterfeit site. Sure the government could start intrusive regulations to use the web..but personally I like the freedom and am willing to take personal responsibility if I goof up. The bank or credit card companies will generally help you get funds reversed if you were legitimately subject to internet fraud.

I have had many fake links sent to me by scammers trying to hack and phish info from me using paypal. One time it was an email but i noticed it said "paypay" instead of of PayPal. Another time, and I have no idea how they do this...it actually said PayPal on the email..and on the link. It said there was a problem with my account. I logged into my account manually on the browser and there was no problem with the account. A scammer was trying to get me and it looked really legit..even for someone like me who is extra careful and very internet savvy.

"The creditcard people dont even have a record of me having applying for an account. Thanks RIPOFF Paypal.

"

Of course they do not have a record. Because you were doing this from a fake website. I know it is easy to blame paypal but this is not their fault. It is the fault of scammers that take advantage of consumers, consumers that are not really yet internet savvy, and the price we pay for having a free system of worldwide commerce.

As much as you may not want to hear this, paypal is a victim as well. As when these scammers get away with this, the victims blame paypal and hurt their reputation unjustly.

You may think I work for paypal since it seems I am defending them..but I am only doing what I feel is right. Trust me, I have had my share of bad experiences with both paypal and paypal buyer credit. The customer service sucks horribly and they are far from perfect. However, I can trust them to protect my information..they have never let me down in that area. If they were not really a secure sight, or their bank was giving out personal bank or credit card information, it would bring them down like a tower of playing cards in a tornado.

If GEMB gave out your info to some companies that used it for unauthorized charges they are in big big trouble.

This requires further investigation. What were you told when you lodged your complaint? Who authorized those charges and what were they for? Certainly your bank will dispute it and you will get the funds back. Are you 100% certain you were not on a scam or phishing site? Since the whole reason for the being of paypal is to protect online transactions and AVOID giving out personal info..this seems rather odd and is not really adding up.

I understand your concern and anger..but make sure you are angry at the right person or company. Millions and millions of people use paypal and payal buyer credit so you would think if they were doing something like this we would have heard more then this one report?

You probably went to a scam site, not PayPal's web site. Did you click on a link on a web site or in an email? Probably did. The only safe way to get to the correct site is to type paypal.com into your web browser's address field.
