Have you ever heard of the company called Premier Bathrooms?

Let me introduce you. They have no store front and no physical business presence in Maryland, except for contractual "consultants" who manage complaints, one of whom is Rich Clark, Premier's Field Service Manager (443)-912-8907 or (443) 629-5805 whom Premier sent to my mother's house to "check the drain" as their "gesture of goodwill."

Premier's corporate office is at 2330A South Nova Road, Daytona, Fl. 32119, at telephone no: (386) 761-1830, fax: (386)-761-6754, and on the web at: www.premier-bathrooms.com

They are out of Daytona Beach, Florida and they are a sleazy operation whose target market is the vulnerable elderly. They utilize concerns of the elderly such as falling, pain, and arthritis and prey on their fear to sell their extremely overpriced shower stalls.

My mother fell victim to their TV ads and before we knew it, she had an aggressive salesman in her house (their only means of selling) who went to work on her with his typical sales tactics, telling her he would only be in town another day and that if she wanted it soon, she would have to order it now because it takes a long time to get as he claimed they were imported from Germany. I believe these to be fabrications, as they are common and very effective sales tactics.

FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS POORER, my mother now has what they call a "walk-in" shower stall that she can barely get into sideways. There is a seat with a back at 90 degrees, so the person must sit bolt upright - hardly relaxing.

She has not been able to utilize the hydrotherapy, because the first time she entered the shower and closed the door, she realized if she filled the tub to capacity for the full so called benefit, she would have been stuck in the shower until the 80+ gallons of water drained, a potentially dangerous scenario. Not wanting to subject herself to the discomfort of sitting in cooling water waiting for the water to drain low enough to enable her to open the door and "walk-out" she can now only take a shower. The questionable "hydrotherapy" feature cannot be used at all.

Once I experienced this absurd contraption for myself and learned what she paid for it, I contacted the Maryland State Attorney General's Office, Consumer Protection Division. They were familiar with Premier Bathrooms, Inc., but Premier is still operating unfettered in Maryland.

The Attorney General's Office has not held them accountable for my mother's huge expenditure, at triple customary cost for such a shower, or to cause Premier to remove this shower she cannot utilize.

I hoped the OAG could get Premier to either refund a major portion of the $15,000 or take this useless shower out and install one of their bathtub models with a power seat, a regular bathtub in which she can immerse herself and relax. Of course, she still requires a sturdy handrail if Premier does not offer a seat which moves from outside to inside the bathtub as many companies offer. As you will see below, they apparently offer such a bathtub now, but my mother certainly does not have one.

So far, the CEO of Premier, Ian White has not returned my calls, nor have I heard from the OAG on my second complaint. It is important to note that the second complaint arose due to my irritation at hearing my mother's call for help because she was stuck in the shower with her legs still in the water that would not drain, calling for a plunger. Of course she could have flooded the bathroom by opening the door, couldn't she? I suppose Premier, having amassed a whopping $15 Grand from my mother doesn't really care how she gets out of the tub or if she expires in it while waiting to open the door.

Since my complaint to Premier back in October, 2008, wherein I chastised them for this malfunctioning design and installation of their "showers" they have merely used my information to further their cause. In the latest AARP Bulletin, April, 2009, Vol. 50, No. 3, bulletin.aarp.org, next to the last page, Premier boasts a new model to sell to their unwitting market.

The ad says:

"You deserve dignity. You deserve independence. New Product, Nothing should prevent you from the pleasure of bathing in your home. Premier's new line of full length baths feature the new Simple LIFT Bath Systems, designed to life you into and out of your bath effortlessly. Independence and security are only a phone call away.

"Transform your bathroom and transform your life."

Well, my mother, $15,000 poorer is still waiting for her life to be transformed. Instead, Premier has actually damaged her house by removing her bathtub and installing the contraption she will likely get stuck in again and again. Let's hope the paramedics won't have to be called to get her out someday while she waits for Premier to undo the damage they have done and end the physical and financial misery she still suffers at their hands.

Keep in mind that Ms. Altman works for Premier and is paid handsomely to ardently tout the integrity of the questionable sales people who are on commission at Premier.  The fact is that Premier has so many off-site sales people that they can't possibly know what goes on in the field.

The more important issue is what the heads of Premier do when they receive a complaint which tells the truth about this company's priorities and it is certainly not the consumer.  They are a typical multi-national company that serves only their bottom line and they don't care who gets hurt in the process.  Buyer beware.  No matter what they install in your house, be assured they will quote you a cost in the $15,000 range for a product that can be installed by a reputable local plumber for a third of the cost with far superior equipment and probably far superior workmanship, since Premier also can't monitor their multi-national, contractual installation force.

Ms. Altman called me in the Fall of 2010 and told me she would not do anything for my mother unless I signed an agreement not to do any more postings on this company.  Isn't that bribery?  Of course it is. They want to continue doing business as usual and want me to shut up.

I will shut up when they install even a builder-grade acrylic whirlpool tub with actual jets, guard rails and a power seat with a head rest so my mother can relax at a 45 degree angle in a warm tub of water up to at least her shoulders.

We won't hold our breath.

First, has anyone ever heard of a shower holding 80 gallons of water? What this woman was talking about is a walk in bath and an informed consumer would have an idea of the investment and the 3 day right to rescind. I would like to know the outcome of the drain issue, and find it hard to believe it holds 80 gallons of water. This company usually has the customer sit in the tub before it's even brought in the home. A lot of the children are concerned for their parents health and safety, and I hope this is the case and not something else. She definitely needs to get her facts right.

Some of the people who help rob people with Premier are now doing business as Zon Walk-in Baths. They started in business questionably www.walkinbathtubdirectory.com explains it all. Zon walk-in baths sells inferior products also.

Premier is indeed a preditory company. I purchased a tub from them based on lies, sent them documention. I'm still fighting them two years later trying to get my money back on a tub that I couldn't use. They should be run out of business. They do nothing except prey on the elderly and handicapped from what I've read. I haven't been in contact with one person from Premier that hasn't conned me or lied to me.

With regard to the posting dated April 15, 2009, Premier Bathrooms, Inc., ("Premier") has promptly responded to complaints filed by this customer's daughter with the Maryland Attorney General's Office, the AARP and ABC NEWS 2 in Baltimore. All agencies were satisfied with the response and actions of Premier with regard to her complaints. The allegations made in this posting are inaccurate. Premier responded to a request by this customer for information regarding the possible purchase of a walk-in hydrotherapy bahttub. Premier offers a wide range of products, designed to meet each customer's needs. The customer purchased the product and an installation was scheduled and completed. The product installed in this customer's home was chosen by the customer based on her needs. With the purchase of the bathtub, the customer received a one year unlimited warranty as well as a lifetime warranty on the seal of the door. At no time during the year following the installation of the walk-in bathtub did the Premier receive any complaints or phone calls from either the customer or her daughter. Premier addressed the customer's concerns regarding the slow drainage of her bathtub by arranging to conduct an inspection despite her warranty's expiration. Upon inspection, Premier found that there was no problem with the installation of the bathtub but that the customer had a plumbing problem throughout her home which caused the bathtub as well as other sinks and drains to drain slowly. Premier recommended that the customer hire a licensed plumber to asses and correct the situation. Premier is the world market leader with regard to the manufacturing, sales and installation of walk-in hydrotherapy bathtubs. Premier has assisted thousands of seniors to maintain their independence and dignity through the use of our product. While we regret this customer's dissatisfaction, Premier continues to stand by its original position as stated above and mainatins that we have met our contractual and ethical oblications to this customer. Sincerely, Melissa Allman Corporate Legal Coordinator
