Being a RENTAL company, and not a credit or finance company, RentACenter DOES NOT report to any credit bureau, and therefore can neither help nor hurt your credit score ( For example, although not advisable, you could actually never send RAC any more payments, keep the merchandise and it will never show up on your credit report one way or another ). And, living in a different state than the one in which you rented is going to complicate matters, such as being able to return and re-rent the merchandise. Although the store from which you originally rented will be concerned as to where you are, and more importantly, where the merchandise is, the store(s) where you live now couldn't care less. You're only an extra work load, being of absolutely no benefit to them nor their bottom line. Also, a lot depends on whether you rented from a RAC owned store, or a franchised store ( a HUGE difference ). The only thing you can do is call the store from which you originally rented and explain your situation to them. I'm sure that since you now live outside of their territory, they will bend over backwards, plant a kiss upon your gluteus maximi and attempt to work out payment arrangements with you.

I have never dealt with Rent-a-Center but I have heard a lot about them. They have a policy where they will take the items back temporarily and then let you pick up where you left off when you're able. Their web site says: "If youre ever in a bind, we can pick up your product, free of charge, and freeze your payments until youre ready to start back up where you left off."
Now, as for them having access to your home to pick them up, can't help you there.
