I pulled into the KFC at 117-05 Francis Lewis Boulevard, St. Albans, NY, to use the drive thru after work this evening on the way to my fiance's house in St. Albans.

I ordered # 3 which I had to change to # 2 because I was told there were no more strips and placed a twenty dollar bill under the tray of the revolving window. The cashier (Reginald D whose name appears on the receipt) returned a five dollar bill with sixty-five cents change. I picked it up, showed it to him and said, I gave you a twenty dollar bill. He turned the window around a couple of times and said, Oh, okay. Why don't you pull over into the parking lot, I'll send someone out with the rest of your change.

I pulled over and waited for at least half an hour and no one came out, so I parked and went inside to get the rest of my change; however, at that point, the cashier said, I gave you fifteen dollars and sixty-five cents. I was shocked and said, I showed you the five dollar bill.

I asked to see the manager who would not come to the front of the store but had me yelling to him through the window while he stood several feet away not facing me to make sure I could not see his name on the nametag. He told me to check inside of the bag and see if the cashier put the rest of the change there. He then asked if I wanted ten dollars worth of food.

I told him that I wanted the rest of my change. All the while he and the other employees were laughing and making fun of me. I told him that I would have to call the police. He told me to go ahead that they couldn't do anything.

I did call the police, and they told me that I had to file a claim in small claims court. I left and went home. I would also like to point out that neither the manager nor the cashier or any other employee who spoke to me would give me their names. There were two men and two women.

I have enclosed a copy of the receipt.

I am an area manager at Central Parking System and earn in excess of $50,000 annually. My fiance is a college professor and earns more than I. We are both hardworking college-educated professionals in the service industry who treat people with respect and courtesy.

There's no reason that I would make up a story about ten dollars or take the time to write this letter after working fourteen hours, except that I am appalled at being so violated and am requesting immediate action to make up for this violation as well I am requesting immediate action toward the St. Albans store and it's employees.

I had a friend that had a similar situation happen with another fast food chain. they got ten bucks off of him, too. Here's what he did: He went back later that week, made sure the same MGR was working, ordered from the drive thru (at that late hour, the lobby was closed). As he was ordering, wouldn't you just know that his car stopped working, right there in front of the Order-Board. How tragic! You know, at 12AM, there aren't many options for food, even in cleveland ohio, but many people did drive away when they saw the line of cars behind him. The MGR came out, told him he had to move his car. My friend reminded him about the ten dollar issue, the MGR said he'd get his crew out and drag his car out of the line. My friend said he wouldn't advise doing that. Well, the MGR got seriously po'd, punched the car and said: 'You'll never get that ten bucks and we'll slash your tires.' All my friend said was: Smille, you're being taped! Extreme, sure, but it worked. He got his ten and a fresh paint job. (the MGR never should've punched the car or admited to taking the ten bucks.) And how did the car break down right where it did? Well, sometimes anti-theft kill switches fail and when they do, the engine cuts off. It's not a perfect world. :)

It's more the principal than the money, but heres what I would do

I agree that the situation you both encountered was totally wrong. With me, the ten bucks isn't the issue, it is the principal, and the attitude they presented to you that you could not do anything about it. With me they quickly find out how wrong they are! Since this situation looked like every employee there was in on it, heres what you do next time. You wait until they just close and lock the door, and turn the outside light off. Then you take a small pointed scratch awl you can get anywhere for about 2 bucks. You do every tire on every car in the parking lot. Press the awl into the sidewall of the tire about an inch and pull it out. It will take 30-45 minutes for the tire to go flat. Most likely as they are halfway home. FYI Sidewall damage cannot be repaired. It is a new tire purchase that they can use the money they stole all night to make! There is justice in Steve's court.

#4UPDATE EX-employee responds

Hi steeves, My name is missy. And i had that happen to me as well. just not with this company. Thank god I have had enough no need for more huh? I just recently quit from K.F.C. In Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. But i think that I would have taken that to court. Because if that had been other way around the cops would have been there. And theft is theft. no matter who was the party that did it. People steal constantly while at work. If that was a employee stealing from the company. I guarentee the cops would have been there arresting some one.So it is no different then if it was employee stealing from costomer you have right's even threw K.F.C. As a costomer and some times that is stronger then employee rights. How Ever they do have open door policy. I would go to other company and ask them how you can get a hold of regional manager. Ask for his number ya know. tell them what happened. And let them know look if it was the other way around. I would be in jail. The other company can help you get ahold of big leages. And by going to other company they will back u. Cause it is their rival. Well I hope that helps you. missy
