Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
After two years of expecting to rent one of our rental units purchased as a timeshare from Mayan Resorts in Mexico, I called both the 1-800 and the regular phone number at Resorts Intl's Marketing to inquire as to why we had not either been contacted or received a rental check.

The 1-800 number is a recording only, so even when you punch 1,2,3 etc., you receive a dead-end recorded message. The regular number is answered by a secretary who puts you on hold for over 45 minutes and then the phone disconnects.

After reading the Rip-Off Revenge report filed by Debbie of High Point, North Carolina, I realized that had I not attempted to contact Resorts Int'l, they would have been content to keep the marketing fee and never perform the promised service. I intend to write a formal letter requesting a full refund of my service fee. And if not restitution is made, I will then file a formal complaint with the Attorney General of Florida, contact the Better Business Bureau of Pompano (although, I doubt RIM is a member) and request that they be removed from the list of possible choices supplied by Mayan Resorts.

We met people at the Resort who were receiving rental checks regularly, so we know there must be at least one reputable rental company out there. It is definitely a buyer-beware market.

TROUBLES WITH THE SAME COMPANY

#2Consumer Comment

Thu, December 11, 2008

I'M ALSO A MEMBER OF THE GRAN MAYAN RESORTS IN MEXICO. MY EX HUSBAND AND I HAVE CONTRACTED THIS SAME COMPANY TO RENT OUR WEEKS SINCE WE BOUGHT THE TIMESHARING. BUT UNFORNATELLY WE HAVEN'T RECEIVED ANY ANSWER ABOUT ANYTHING AFTER PAYING THE LIFETIME ADVERTISING FEE. NOW I NEED TO SELL MY TIMESHARING AND I'M LOST. I JUST DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO IT. THIS COMPANY WILL NOT BE HELPFUL AT ALL AND I'LL PROBABLY BE FORCED TO PAY ANOTHER ONE FOR THE SAME SERVICE. IT IS SOMETHING UNACEPTABLE FROM A GROUP LIKE MAYAN RESORTS TO RECOMEND THIS KIND OF COMPANY TO THEIR CLIENTS. IF ANYONE ELSE HAS THE SAME TROUBLE OR HAVE ALREADY FIGURE IT OUT HOW TO FIX IT, I WOULD BE GLAD TO KNOW. THANK YOU.

Resorts International Refuses to Refund Fee

#3Author of original report

Melonie Holt, a consumer reporter at WFTV in Orlando, Florida, has expressed an interest in confronting Resorts International Marketing. My note to Melonie was as follows: Melonie - check this out and shut it down. Full details at Rip-off Revenge. Unique scheme in that it takes two years for a victim to realize he's been had and by that time hundreds more are in the pipeline. Resorts International Marketing 101 N. Riverside Dr., Pompano Beach, FLA 33062 , 954-784-8305 (nobody answers). Attorney General turning a blind eye - maybe you can encourage him to do his job. HELP - a victim. Since filing my report, I have sent a certified demand letter to Phaedra Almstead, President of Resorts International Marketing. She had her secretary respond to the letter by phone to tell me that they would not be refunding my money. When I pointed out that I paid a fee in advance and received no service, the secretary said we have a signed contract, which is not true, because I have a copy of our contract and we forgot to sign it when we sent it in with our check. I asked to speak to Phaedra, but she does not handle calls of this nature, nor does she respond in writing. I have also received in writing from my timeshare customer service department the promise that they will remove Resorts International Marketing from the referral list for advertising and marketing of units. I intend to request the revised referral list, but hold little hope that it has changed as I believe there are worthwhile financial kickbacks from Resorts International to the recommending timeshares. My correspondence from Grupo Mayan was from Natalie Edwards at 1-800-292-9446 or [email protected] in case you too would want to request the advertising and marketing referrals list. I am quite sure that few, if any, of the companies on the list are legitimate, but if one is legitimate, they need to be given credit for it. I am also experiencing a great deal of difficulty booking my own timeshare for the place and time I would like it. They have a policy of booking six months in advance, but when you call on the first day you can call, the lines are busy and if you get through, they are all booked up. What was supposed to be a relaxing annual event is becoming an annoying and frustrating experience. Why can't people just do what they say they are going to do? Donna
