Thanks for the heads up on Crystal Blue - my suggestion - let's watch and wait. As soon Nance launches this new entity, I suggest we let it operate for a couple of months, get established and then make everyone aware of them with a new posting right here in Rip Off Report making the world aware of their background, highlighting the name of the company, Nance and Smith's name, etc. Rip Off Report ALWAYS ranks VERY high on a Google search. Therefore, as soon as anyone is thinking of engaging with these clowns via this new entity and they Google them - bang, their history will come up and that will sink the contract. Within a very short period of time it will strangle any cash flow. Provided we all keep our ear to the ground and follow up one another and maintain communications we'll be able to rid the industry of these parasites. Crystal Blue Homes and Rind group Pty Ltd are a completely seperate company in regards to any relationship with Dan Smith. "Crystal Blue" on the other hand is the name in question regarding Dan Smith and Rod Nance. As Dan Smith only holds a supervisors licence with the QBCC he can not be a sole trader or start another building company. Rod Nance on the other hand owns a low rise licence I would expect he will be next in line to start a new company ie; "Crystal Blue".

The following is an email response from the QBCC regarding Dan Smith, the RICC Group and "Crystal Blue", if anyone who has had the unfortunate experience of dealing with Smith can cast any light on the following and revert back to the QBCC, that would be most appreciated.

This is in response to your emails on 11 & 12 April 2016 regarding RICC Group, Dan Smith and his alleged related entities “Crystal Blue”.

Firstly, thank you for your notification and I acknowledged your concerns. I have conducted some searches including ASIC historical company extract particularly the alleged related entities “Crystal Blue”. Please find the following information:

• ·       Daniel John Smith (licence 1026567) holds an active Builder Low Rise (Site Supervisor) licence which allows the holder to act as a site supervisor/ employee of the appropriated licensed entity only and not allow to trade as a sole trader.
• ·       RICC Group Pty Ltd (previous licensed – 1181886), its licence was cancelled on 15 February 2016.
• ·       After conducting an online search (attached) on the QBCC’s website using “Crystal Blue” which revealed a licensed Company licence 1257302 belongs to Rind Group Pty Ltd trading name as Crystal Blue homes (QLD) with a Builder Low Rise class. I can confirm from the ASIC historical company extract that the sole director, secretary and the Nominee of this company is Mr Darryl Trevor Meehan. There is no indication Daniel John Smith is associated with the company.

Regarding your concerns mentioned on email dated 11 April 2016, evidences are required for QBCC to investigate the allegation about Daniel John Smith is operating as an influential person for Rind Group Pty Ltd (if this is the company you are concerning); if you have such information, you can lodge a complaint to the QBCC along with a Notification of Offence Form (NOOF) which can be located on:

Regarding your concerns mentioned on email dated 12 April 2016 about monies owed by Daniel John Smith and Ricc Group Pty Ltd, the debtors may consider seeking independent legal advice to address the issues. As stated above, due to the licence type and status of Daniel John Smith and Ricc Group Pty Ltd, unfortunately QBCC’s monies owed complaint process is not applicable in these circumstances.

I have attempted to keep the QBCC abreast of what our friend Smith is doing, sadly the QBCC (just like the old QBSA) appears to be either incompetent or happy enough for Smith to instigate new companies at his will. What needs to happen is that everytime this parasite raises his ugly head, we all need to kick it off by creating new posts here on Rip Off Report - detailing the name(s) of his new businesses (e.g. Crystal Blue which he apparently has an involvement in) and posting it herein. This website ranks quickly and highly on Google searches which ENSURES anyone searching Smith or his boyfriend Nance - will find almost immediately, read and realize what sort of scum they could potentially be involved with and then leave without engaging with this vermin. Collectively, as the QBCC is too incompetent to do so, we need to keep tracking this pile of crap and ensuring at every turn he is listed on Rip Off Report and reviews are made of him and any building company he is ever involved in again. People then search builders online, they will be aware of Smith's history and avoid him accordingly. 

Dan, I promised you, when you ripped me off, I would do EVERYTHING in my power to ensure you failed going forward. I was responsible for winding up DJ Smith Construction Pty. Ltd., you losing your house, you being fined by the QBSA. As soon as I found out about the RICC Group I started this campaign and I will continue to hunt you until your buried. That I promise you.

FYI our property has finally been certified and can now be sold. I've lost NOTHING - you're now down two businesses you sack of crap!

Dan Smith has yet again been forced to close another building company RICC Group on the 8/4/16. He was put into liquidation with hundreds of thousands owing to clients, suppliers and oustanding tax bills. Not to mention ex employees that are owed tens of thousands in outstanding super, that is how low this scum of the earth is! Be warned, there is no doubt this manipulative, oxygen stealing loser will be out there starting up a new one again soon. Advice, steer clear of anyone called Dan Smith or his sidekick Rod Nance approaching you about building works. Since DJ Smith Constructions these LOSERS haVe been ripping clients and suppliers off and are continuing to do so. The QBCC have cancelled his building licence and he isn't legally allowed to do any building works but is still out there doing so. It is hard to believe he is still getting away with it...........

Sorry to hear that that pile of crap is still ripping sub-contractors (and no doubt owners) off with the QBCC doing nothing about it.

We have our property on the market at the moment, so I have (for the timebeing), taken down a FaceBook page on which I had further detailed some of the issues associated with Smith.

My suggestion would be to go hard with the QBCC, make them aware that you know all about Smith's prior deregistration for financial non-compliance and that the RICC Group is mere;y a phenoix company set up by the same director after DJ Smith Construction was wound up for PRECISELY the same sort of thing that he is doing to you guys. I went to the media over this originally and the then minister responsible then then QBSA shat himself and directed the head of the QBSA to go chase the matter down, otherwise they would have done nothing. The QBSA then had a governmental enquiry performed into it (which we contributed to), many of the senior QBSA officer bearers lost their jobs over it. The QBSA was restructured into the QBCC with a mandate to protect owners, etc. and to avoid precisely this sort of behaviour by builders - clearly this isn't working.

I am more than happy to confirm all of this with the QBCC if that assists your cause. Smith is vermin and should never by allowed to build yet the QBCC bend over backwards for him repeatedly.

 In early December 2015 we completed 3 large concreting works at this address and have not been paid and he doesnt answer his phone. We got the work through Trade Builders buying group who regularly advertise for trades wanted as part of your membership. Builder Dan Smith of the RICC GROUP membership #3753 advertised positions vacant on their Work Pool list a few times and on 17/12/15 for All Trades ASAP: Supervisors x2, Carpenters x 10 or gangs, Tilers x 3, Plasterers x3, Painters x3. Obviously he has a bit on, eh.

Anyone else doing work for him and not being paid, report him. We will be advising Trade Builders, QBCC and the Ombudsman tomorrow.  Anyone that can help or give advice please do.

Here you will find documented evidence from the QBCC of Dan Smith and the RICC Group's incompetence, financial non-compliance, listings of defective works, demerit points, directions to rectify, failure to comply with directions to rectify, suspensions, deregistration and all manner of compelling reasons why NOT to do business (in any form) with ANY entity associated with Dan Smith or one of his associates anywhere in Australia.

Dan Smith - the failed Brisbane builder who has ripped off numerous people over the last decade - has now pulled down his RICC Group website as he has been exposed for the thief he is. But beware, he will, as he has done on multiple occasions before, relaunch under another guise. I am therefore putting a photograph of him herein so that if you are unfortunate enough to cross paths with this parasite, run in the opposite direction.

To who it may concern who posted about Dan Smith owing money to the ATO and not paying superannuation entitlements to employees and the like, this, in combination to shoddy and defective work practices and the non-payment of suppliers and sub-contractors - sounds like we're on the same page and believe me, I am doing EVERYTHING I can to ensure he doesn't get away with it again.

This includes contacting the media, ASIC, the ATO and the QBCC - everyone is being made aware of his prior history and I will not rest until this pile of crap is closed down permanently, he can not get away with continuing to ruin the lives of hardworking people whilst - as you so adptly put it - lining his own pockets.

Please feed through ANY additional (and verifiable evidence you can provide) and I will ENSURE it is package up for the appropriate authorities to act upon - just as I did to the Queensland Building Services Authority 6 or 7 years ago. Smith laughed at me when I did this, he wasn't laughing quite as hard when they deregistered him, DJ Smith Construction Pty. Ltd. was put into liquidation and he was forced to sell his house and banned from being a "person of influence" in a building company. He flouted these rules, got another $5000 fine for unregistered works he completed on the Jetty Bar in Hamilton - I dobbed him in for that as well and the QBSA (who was under the microscope at the time from the state government) fined him.

I've waited until he's got back on his feet, knew that he'd be up to his old tricks, wanted to make sure that he had something of worth to lose again, now I'm back, ready to chase him down again.

I warned him when he started building our home, "Don't screw me over on this, I know there are some parasites in the building industry and I promise you I'll come after you hard".

He laughed it off, pretended to be our best mate, played on his kidney disorder for sympathy and then proceeded to screw us and I told him when I saw him face to face with the QBSA assessors at our place when they issued him with directions to rectify - "This isn't over. I promise you I will ruin you in the long term for what you've done to us and others."

Unlike Dan, I'm good to my word, so if you have anything that can be verified, post it here and I will ensure that the necessary authorities are made aware of such information until this lump of crap is squeezed out of the industry - permanently.

 I can tell you not all the Ricc Group group employees were involved in this previous scam and didn't know about Dans shady past. I am a friend of one of these blokes who has found out Dan hasn't ever paid his super and has it on good word other boys are the same. Over a couple of thousand in Super not paid. And apparently the ATO is owed similar ammount by Ricc Group. How is he getting away with this again without being shut down???? Ground Hog day because so many clients not paying as they aren't happy with defective uncertified work not competed on schedule and people chasing money and threatening legal action and there is nothing to pay them. Why isn't BSA investigating as insolvent trading for sure and people are getting burned and ripped off but they don't seem to care. Even when there is a previous record against this guy! He will just keep lining his pockets and ruining employees futures and leaving trusting businesses for broke until an authority can stop him. Who does that to people when they know they can't pay and are just gonna screw them over? So yeah agreed. Avoid Ricc Group unless you want an unfinished job you aren't happy with, want to work for them and not get paid super the law says it's yours or want to sell them materials you ll never be paid for.

Dan Smith (the deregistered builder) and his offsider (Rodney Nance) have removed (suspended their website - riccgroup.com.au) in an attempt to hide links from my previous post pertaining to their dealings with the Building Services Authority (BSA) which deregistered Smith as a builder and terminated his then company - DJ Smith Construction Pty. Ltd.

As previously mentioned, Smith was banned from being a person of interest in a building company for 5 years. What he did was to set up another company and continued to trade (The RICC Group) - this is precisely the same group of bozos that destroyed our property and required nearly 7 years of heartache in order for us to gain final certification of the property.

If you are Brisbane based and come across a builder call Dan Smith ensure, for your own safety, it is not the Dan Smith referred to in the following government links. If you contract with this person to perform any works you are likely to get ripped off as he has left a trail of carnage, defective workmanship and unpaid suppliers and sub-contractors in his wake.
