Dont get Ripped off like I did. Be ware!  I called Rooter Plus in Cumming Ga to take advantage of an advertised $175.00 spring special for Septic tank Pump out.

They located my tank dug around to expose lid and instead of lifting tank lid off with attached hooks the technician drug tank lid off with back h*e breaking corner of tank.  They repaired it.  He pumped the tank and then Pointed out that the tail out baffle of a 30 year old concrete tank was deteriated and was allowing solids to run into drain field. He told me it needed to be fixed. Additionally he said the tail out pipe was broken and needed to be replaced or else the tank would tilt and fall due to water leakage

. He priced the job at $2000.00!!  I was shocked and questioned but technician said he could have to dig  40 to 50 feet to find the coregated pipe to connect the new tail out line to.

To my amazement he dug exactly (FIVE FEET) found the coregated pipe so he used exactly 5 feet of 4 inch PVC   a 4 inch T and a 3 foot piece of 4 inch PVC (that makes up the letter L) and pushed it through the supplied hole in the tank sealed it and charged me $2000.00 for this repair.

I was in disbelief. I called Banks Septic tank Service and Amos Septick Tank Service and was quoted $500-700 for the same job. I complained to managenment asked for consideration and was supposed to receive a 500.00 discount but as of 4/9/14 this has not happened.  My service was on 4/1/14 DONT Get Ripped off. What I believed to be a reliable and first class company really surprised me.  I felt sure they would adjust the bill once the locations was determined at 5 feet to conect.

I priced the pipe at Home Depot.  $35.00 Total including one buck of quick set concret to seal the hole

I received a phone call today from the President and CEO of Rooter Plus in Cumming Ga.  He reached out to me to let me know that he appreciated my concern and was glad that I informed him of what was going on.  He said his managers should have already handled the situation described in previous post and even more his service technican had every opportunity to adjust the flat rate pricing on the spot when the job was easy as he discovered.  He said they have Friday morning meetings each week to discuss fair business procedures and assured me he would be bringing this up tomorrow.

Additionally he told me that he was going to meet with the on site manager to see why he had not followed through with his agreement to correct the bill.  That being said Charlie the president got my email address and instantly sent me a confirmation cutting my bill to $1000.00 dollars. He apologized for the delay and was very polite and I really appreciate what he did in my situation. I would say that Charlie cares about his customers and called me to make necessary adjustments that met my total satisfaction with Rooter Plus.  I would not hesitate to use them in the future.

Let me just start off by saying I am not here to justify their cost, or say that their cost was wrong either.  The reason is because no one on this site was at your house in the same situation.  So let us just touch on a few points.

First of all you agreed to the $2000 estimate, so they didn't charge you any more than you agreed to.  Did the agreement state that if they didn't have to dig as much you would get a credit?  Then why would you expect that?

Next, you CALLED another plumber after the fact.  That is AFTER the job was done and AFTER it was found out where the exact issue was.  The plumber also did not come out to your house..they only took what you told them over the phone.  If you left out a few key details to them(intentional or not) their estimate could be extreamly off.

Perhaps the one you called knew you already had the work done and figured to "lowball" you on the estimate.  Now you ask why they would do that.  Well first of all they told you exactly what you wanted to hear right?  So when you think of another repair they hope you think of how reasonable they were and calll them.  Only to have them hit you with a huge bill when they show up.  Now of course I have no idea who this other company is, and am not saying that they would do this...but it is a possibility that any company may do.

Then what exactly were you saying by giving us the price of the pipe from Home Depot?  If that was an issue then why didn't you do the entire job yourself?

I will say one other thing.  IF you have something in writing that says they will credit you back $500...take it.  If they fail to do that, then take them to small claims court.  But if they do credit it back to you, I hope you have enough integrity to update your post with that fact.
