Sharon, What they did was called "slamming", and was popular back in the 80's when long distance companies would use every and any tactic to add their service to your bill. A phone call, cash this free $5.00 rebate, etc where the fine print would add services to your phone bill. I'm NOT saying you did any of this, since illegal "slamming" is when companies do it WITHOUT your permission. If you can't get SBC to take off the charge, dispute the billing - the directions of how to dispute a charge usually involve writing a letter or two, one to SBC, and the other to a Federal Communications Bureau. You CAN ask SBC to assist you, and they should help. If they don't, include that when you DO find your Federal Telecommunications Bureau - it only helps you build your case - so it is a good thing either way! You HAVE the right to dispute the bill. During the dispute, you HAVE the right not to pay that amount - just make sure you deduct it each month. Best yet, call the company directly and be really polite, as much as you can. Maybe they will reverse it if you hint that you'd be willing to consider their "service" in the future, but that you can't spend the $14.00 TODAY, and would they "please please" remove it. :) I'll watch this thread - let us know how it goes.
