I contacted Ms. Ayres about a pup listed in a Nickel add paper. I was told that she was available and we got talking. I explained that I was looking for a younger pup, a red female Doberman Pinscher. She said she had one but could not sell her because she had grown fond of her, Amber. I was told in minutes that she might sell her if her husband said it was alright to do so. She asked if $1200 was a price that I could pay. I said that I had looked at a $1500 pup and she told me she'd call me back and ask her husband in the mean time.
Within the hour she called saying her husband wanted her to sell Amber because they didn't need 3 Doberman's but the price had gone up to $1400. She also said that she had an all black that was Amber's littermate but she had lost an eye from an injury/infection and her selling cost was $900 if I was interested. I looked at her last add for these pups and they're price was only $600. She had indeed doubled the price on me!
I should have walked away then but in hearing that Amber was used to walking on leash, used a doggie door and slept inside in a nursery and used a crate I was intrigued. That was just what I wanted to hear for training a pup in late fall. We agreed on $1250. She told me that I would need to send a deposit and she would not sell her to anyone else.
In receiving Amber, it was obvious within a day, the pup had no training in any area what so ever as I had been lead to believe. She was so excitable whenever she saw me that she would go through my legs and tripped me causing a fall on the frozen hard ground. That and jumping up on me constantly and almost knocking me down was the last straw.
I have dog training experience and sensed Amber had become overly excitable because she had been confined in Rita's kennel and not ever allowed out to run. Amber didn't even know what grass was. She would not eliminate in the yard until after 12 hours she finally figured it out. Rita told me Amber was used to playing in a grassy fenced yard! That was just another untruthful statement.
Our agreement stated that I could return Amber within 30 days. I did so in 2! I drove to Valley because we had met in another town when I got her initially and I wanted to see the kennels to see if my suspicions were correct. I was disgusted with what I saw upon reach Ms. Ayers residence. What I saw was terrible neglect, numerous breeding bitches and litters in dirty, way too cramped quarters. I knew instantly that I was not going to accept another of Ms. Ayers puppies. Yes, this was what I dreaded finding out; I'd paid $1250 through the nose to a puppy-mill breeder.
In leaving Amber I immediately told Rita that I did not want a replacement pup but my money refunded and she agreed to a full refund.
That was short lived after she spoke to some friends who said she didn't owe me anything. She said in good conscience that she would pay me 1/2 my money. I agreed to 1/2 within a certain time period and that came and went. Then we agreed verbally to $400 more. I have yet to see anything more, thus Ripoff report to spare anyone else buying from this puppy mill breeder; her name online is Schaffenhaus shepherds but I saw Poodles, Dobes, Poms. and Sheperds just to name what I could see driving in. My husband heard dogs coming from the acreage that we did not access.
I would not advise anyone to buy from this person. She is not qualified and does not have the funds to be breeding dogs and properly take care of several dozen dogs. She is not the type of person who can't be trusted to her word. To prove this, the minute I returned Amber she immediately put her up for sale. So much for growing fond of her and only selling her to me!
Please ask questions, and go see your breeder before purchasing your pet. It is the only way to see where your dog is coming from the what they've experienced.

Looks like Rita's been engineering more reports in her favor cause how would all these past buyers even see my report?
What I noticed that needs a comment on after reading these reports, they all have purchased a different breed of dog. That is exactly what a puppy mill breeder is all about. They don't specialize, they breed. I got a Dobi, she who caused all the hubbub. She also has German Shepherds, Poms, Poodles and I even saw another in there somewhere. Any person that has more than 2 breeds at the most IS A PUPPY MILL pure and simple but they did try to put my reputation to the test. Nice try girls.

I can appreciate your point. It might have not been you that accused me of being hateful. I was reading all the posts, as my email address posted an update. I am not unexperienced with dog training, I bred cockapoos for 8 years in WA. I have shown a poodle and an AM Cocker Spaniel in the AKC ring.
I had just had a back surgery when I purchased this dobbie. Rita told me that she had not sold her previously because she was a favorite of hers. I was told she was house broken and slept on her bed, so far from the truth it wasn't funny. This dog had never even walked on grass! It isn't hard to tell with her taking over an hour to pee the first time here. Rita told me that she was leased trained, again a pure fabrication.. Scarlet had never had a leash on in her life, because of my back issue, I thought I wouldn't have to train her in these respects. SCarlet knocked me to the ground twice, on frozen ground, and I knew that I couldn't handle what she needed, not to say, what I needed and thought I had paid for.
This dog had been for sale previously to her ear docking for only $650 I found out later. I paid Rita $1200 with the assurance from her Scarlet was trained. She was so excitable coming inside I knew she's never seen the inside of a house before. She would not go inside a crate, again, I was told she was crate trained and used to one. I could go on, do you get it yet?
Rita told me she was so upset with all the issues she was no longer going to breed. Doesn't sound like that has happened either. All lies, promises not met, and what I observed when I dropped the puppy off, was a dirty puppy mill. She did not know that I was coming so didn't have the time to clean up; I saw the real way she keeps her pups. Too bad so many people are gullible. I'm saw what I saw!

My account was not fabricated and I never said you were hateful - I simply stated my experience with Rita. I found her to be kind, trustworthy and in return for my money I received a wonderful dog.
Yes, I did ask the question - what kind of person would return a dog for being excited and unable to walk properly on the leash. Which in retrospect wasn't the kindest thing to say and if I hit a nerve or hurt your feelings, I am sorry for that. It was not my intention to hurt but to try and gain some understanding.
I tried very hard to not comment negatively about you or your experience with Rita as a breeder, but I found it to difficult to overlook the fact that you are the one that returned the pup after having her for only 2 days. If you were upset about level of training the pup had then make a phone call and voice it, why take it out on the pup? The other think I can't understand is if you were that disgusted with Rita's care why place the puppy back in her care?
I have no idea what kind of conversation you had with Rita and what promises she made to you. You say you have training/breeding experience, but returned the puppy before she had time to transition and learn your expectations. How old was the puppy? Was is her fault she didn't live up to the expectations set forth by her humans?
As for you not wanting to hear about other peoples pleasant experiences with Rita and the success of the puppies they have purchased. I would say to get over it. That was the risk you took when positing on sites like this. For every bad experience there are several good and you should expect people to voice both sides once you blog about your opinion. It just happens to be that you are the only one that has had a negative experience with Rita and has posted here.

Clearly, all these replies to my allegations are fabricated to say the least. Not only do people attack me personally for stating my view of Rita Ayres, but they totally missed why my dog was returned. Rita promised me if she didn't work out that I could return her. She then said I could have a full refund. Many messages and phone calls later she changed it to only 1/2. This was listening to friends and or breeders telling her that she didn't need to repay me.
I have breed myself for years so I'm not some stupid dog owner expected this or that. I was lied to and Rita misrepresented herself and the dog. If you are pleased, I'm so happy for you. But next time, take the time to read what was written and don't call me hateful, that's a better description of you all!
It's been a year now, I no longer wish to continue hearlng how wonderful Ms. Ayre's is. She'll get her just deserves.

I purchased a Miniature Poodle from Rita over a month ago. It was a fantastic experience; I located an ad that she had placed and responded via email. I was a nervous 1st time buyer and she took all the time necessary to make sure my questions were answered as well as asked several of her own. I could tell by the numerous emails and the phone calls that it was tremendously important to her that her puppies go to well prepared, safe and happy homes.
Since we live on opposite sides of the state, she excepted my deposit via the email and provided me with several pictures as well as a receipt. Over the next few weeks we emailed several times as I prepared to have Coco come home. She was very accommodating and provided me with all of the information I needed to have an adequate set-up.
When it came time to pick up Coco, Rita and I both drove 3 hours from our home to meet in Moses Lake, she did charge a "delivery" charge which I thought was very reasonable considering the distance and the price of gas these days.
I was provided with all of the appropriate paperwork, including my final receipt, Coco's current health record and instructions for feeding and when her puppy shots were due. The most important thing I received was the sweetest most adorable poodle puppy I have ever seen and since my entire family is obsessed with poodles, I have seen a lot.
Coco has been a absolute joy and a wonderful addition to our family, right now she is playing with my 2 kids and having a blast. She has a wonderful temperament, a beautiful coat, great stance and after only having her for 3 weeks is sleeping through the night and is 95% house trained.
In my book that makes for great breeding, fabulous early care and socialization.
I am truly sorry that this lady's experience was so traumatic for her. With that said she seemed very angry and although I have not been to Rita's Kennel, I can't imagine all of what she said was true. People have a tendency to embellish on the facts when trying to prove a point.
What kind of person would return a puppy because she was excited to see them and couldn't walk properly on a leash at such a young age. When Rita told me that Coco was great at using the "potty area" didn't mean that she was housebroken. Could it be that more was read into what was actually said?
Coco is a very well rounded, straight forward puppy and I don't think that Rita's care/kennel can be anything close to what the original report claims and still turn out such a wonderful puppy. Animals that are neglected and poorly taken care of are not typically well rounded puppies, usually neglect equals sad puppies with behavioral issues.
Rita is a wonderful breeder and has checked in on Coco to see how she is doing! I look forward to continue building a great relationship with Rita and to the day a friend or family member is looking for a pup and I can refer them to Rita.

We got a shep pup from Rita a couple of yrs ago, Recently we were in town and stopped by. Rita told us about this lady how she arranged to meet in town and left her sit there 2 hrs. How the lady has returned 3 other dogs.Rita has a breeding female and 2 other young dogs that are waiting to turn 2 next yr. so they can be OFA'd. What puppy mill brings dogs in from germany, what puppy mill x-rays their dogs and what puppy mill is inspected. This lady made a mistake and slams a great kennel. We recomend Rita to anyone. Cindy.

What this lady has written about schaffenhaus shepherds is totally untrue. We got our pup from Rita a few days ago, Her kennels were clean with cedar shavings.
Our puppy passed her health check with the vet commenting on it was the best looking german shepherd he'd seen in a long time.
We went in the house and were very impressed with the framed doucument from the American kennel Club
A puppy mill???? Not hardly. Rita told us the only reason she even considered giving this woman 1/2 her money back is she didn't want another pup in the care of this lady . Make your own judgement people call Rita and read her testimonials. I'd highly recommend her. Too bad people have to be so hateful. Lady you should be happy you got half your money back had it been me you wouldn't of got a dime. Megan.

We purchased two eight week old doberman pups from Rita and are fantastically happy with them. They are everything that Rita said they were. They have turned out to be healthy, happy, well adjusted dogs and are now just a little overa year old.
The buyers agreement that we signed indicated there was no guarantee nor was there any refund available, so I'm surprised that you felt entitled to one. I think that she was very accommodating to agree to give you any sort of refund.
There is nothing unusual about a pup Amber's age jumping on people and it was unreasonable of you to expect a fully trained dog at that age. You should have known what to expect from the age and the breed of the dog. As for prices, Rita is entitled to adjust her prices according to the market, and the price of doberman pups does fluctuate.
Rita has impressed us as a caring breeder who tries to make sure that her pups are well taken care of after they leave her kennels. We would not hesitate to purchase a pup from her again.

We bought a beautiful female german shepherd puppy from Rita 2 1/2 years. An outstanding dog in many ways. A few months after we purchased our dog Rita came by for a visit. When our dog saw Rita she immediately ran up to her with the warmest, exuberant and loving greeting. Her recognition and love for Ritawas incredible to see.
Rita absolutely loves her dogs and the response of our puppy to her visit was absolute confirmation of how Rita treated this dog. Several subsequent visits have shown the deep bond our dog has with Rita.
It is my opinon that it is unrealistic to buy a puppy and take it home and have an expectation that the dog will behave with a high level of maturity. Even a dog that is mature and very well trained may not resopnd well immediately with a new owner. The bonding process is complex, as is training and both require much time and much effort.
From what I saw in the complaint there was nothing to indicate that there was anything wrong with the dog. Peeing after 12 hours seems reasonable for a pup transported to a new and strange home. Running excitedly and jumping indicates its not a dud. Age appropriate training involves patience and realistic expectations. It seems thatthe purchaser may have missed an opportunity to have a good dog.
Several visits to Rita's kennels alwaysaffirmed that the facility was in good order. Her German Shepherds are amazing. Rita spends a great effort in obtainingg very fine breeding dogs. Very Beautiful!
In purchasing a pup its always a good idea to read the contract and understand the terms and espcecially all details relating to refunds. A dog isn't for everyone and requires a great deal of work. Buyin a good dog is step 1. Caring for it properly is as important. The rewards of having a great dog are, in my opionion, worth the effort.

Ms. Ayers had an attorney threaten me with a libel lawsuit. What I say about that, nothing I've said in this report is not the truth. I would like to empathize however, that it was my opinion only that Ms. Ayers is practicing like a PUPPYMILL. The neglect that I mentioned is my opinion also; I saw a b***h and several large Shepperd pups in a small run that they couldn't' even turn around in. They did have a way out to a run outside but I did not see the condition or size of it. I saw a poodle b***h with 3 pups in a very small cage with no room inside and an outside kennel with more breeding bitches and pups. I don't know how many dogs Ms. Ayers has on her property but there is a new law addressing care of dogs and number of dogs a breeder can have. You can make your own assessment if you visit her kennels. She tried to assure me that she cleans daily and maybe that is true but not what I saw this particular time when I returned this dog. She has also told me that Scarlett is now fixed and given away. No dog, 1/2 my money gone!!!!!!!!!!!! You decide if what she's done is right.
