With a name like Smalleys Motel, they could not have charged more then $30 a night, and you can't expect much for that price. PEOPLE NEED TO LEARN that the days of $20 and $30 rooms are OVER and unless you want to settle for subpar quality on a few that still exsist, you will have to pay more. However, I don't see what the rip off is, if the hotel gave your money back! However, on the note of the motel, they can not be doing very well if they are refunding all their customers. I would clean up my act a little. Thank you for the warning.

I understand what you were trying to do by letting people know about the conditions of a motel, however I don't consider this a rip off if you received your money back. I would suggest that you utilize other sites to review and/or report hotel impressions. Whenever I consider booking a hotel/motel I go onto sites such as Travel advisor to read reviews about the hotel. These reviews are submitted by people who have actually stayed in the hotel some of which have provided pictures of evidence. In addition I would have definitely called the health dept. But thanks for the heads up on that Motel.

So the OP was unhappy, graciously had her money refunded by the motel, and then she goes posting negative things about the hotel on ripoffreport??? What a way to show some gratitude!! While the OP would like to "warn" others about this place, I for one would think that others might actually want to stay here. A hotel that listens to their customers and goes above and beyond to ensure their satisfaction? Sounds good to me!

That means the health department office would have been there. I would have found them and addressed my concerns personally, in that case. With pictures, if at all possible.

if I had encountered a room that bad, my conscience would have had me on the phone to the county health inspector the first thing in the morning. I would have taken pictures, too, for evidence.

I am sorry if I have offened some of you I felt a motel such as this one should be reported YES I did get my money back and as I said I am not after more money I just feel that others should be told about this so that they did not make the same mistake as I did to think of even staying there-I had called ahead and made reservations because this time of year a lot of the places are booked as it is a wonderfull place to go for canoeing and itubing down the current River. I had no clue it was going to be that way- I did by the way find a very nice and clean motel to stay at while in Van Buren -if you don't want to belive me that is fine basically I was just passing a freindly warning out and wondered if the state does not have inspectors to check out motels if not they should have. If you want to stay at Smalleys go for it - I was just wanting to warn you what you would be in for - I cannot say every room is like the one I stayed in but I did not want to even find out.

The OP didn't like the room, with good reason, and was refunded his/her money. Looks to me like the Motel did EXACTLY as it should have. What is the ripoff?

The OP already recieved their refund at the front desk and is simply trying to warn others. Seems reasonable enough to me.

Did you request to look at the room before paying for it up front? Did you make your concerns known at the hotel upon checking in? Did you give management the opportunity to assign you to another room or refund your money? Did you do ANYTHING at all to rectify your dissatisfaction BEFORE leaving the property? If it was as bad as you claim, how were you able to spend the night in the room? Your story leaves a lot of unanswered questions ... perhaps you should provide more details to explain how this is a rip off.
