When I responded with my resume and cover letter to the contact email listed in the advertisement, I received the following auto response email:
To Apply Complete The 3 Steps Below: {Note-If you submit your application & resume without completing application step 2, your application will automatically be disregarded. Do not submit an application unless you intend to complete all application steps in order as posted below!!!}
Step 1: Fill out the application form at: http://www.southsiderecordz.net/application.html
Step 2: Process your Application & Background Check at: http://southsiderecordz.net/processcenter.html
Step 3: After you complete "Step 2", email us at:
[email protected] & request a reference number to track your application progress.
IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW ALL THESE PROCEDURES, YOU WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR EMPLOYMENT!!!!!!!!
I went to Step 1 and filled out the application and was then directed to the "process center" where they were requesting $45 for processing the application and conducting a background check.
I started to become skeptical of this opportunity the minute I got the auto response message sending me to another website. The contact in the ad was a yahoo email, but the auto response was sending you to an actual website for a company. I myself have a website for my company and with the website you also get email accounts for that website (ie: website is www.mjwest.net, email address is
[email protected]). I let this slide, however, because I also have a yahoo account so I can "screen" my emails and my business account does not get logged down with spam and other emails. I filled out the application with reservations, but stopped when I was directed to pay a fee.
This caused me some more concerns. I have applied for jobs that require a background check before, so that was not an issue for me, but these companies have always covered the fee that is involved in conducting a background check. This made me want to investigate this company a little more. When you delete the extensions from the website, www.southsiderecordz/processcenter, you get the main page of the website, www.southsiderecordz.net. This website was very primitive and, as Adam from Nevada has already indicated, riddled with porn sites. After reviewing the website, I was concerned, but the site indicated that it was a new company, so I thought maybe they were trying to keep their overhead low. This, however, caused me more concern because if they cannot pay the money to conduct background checks, than how would they be able to pay me for the position. I clicked on the paypal link anyway, just to check it out and was directed to the payment page, which listed another email
[email protected], which is not ANY of the email listed on the website for contact information.
I then did a search on the internet with this company and found the rip off report from Adam in Nevada.
Needless to say, I did not submit the money and pay the money.
I run my own business where I provide administrative work and legal services for individuals and firms. I actually have a legitimate company and I work from my home office and conduct most of the work via the Internet, telephone, and emails. This company is the reason why people are skeptical about hiring other legitimate businesses that offer virtual office assistance.
