Stafford Diner Stafford Grille False Advertising - Bait and Switch tactics Stafford, Virginia
I was driving by looking for a quick sandwich at a reasonable price. Tired of fast food I thought I will try some old fashioned diner style restaurants along my route. A sign on the front of the restaurant got may attention. It said Any Sandwich, with Fries and drink for $5.99! Great deal and not a lot of folks waiting.
Once I was sat at a table a very nice waitress (somewhat new) took my order for a Club sandwich, asked if I wanted fries or chips...I replied fries since I believe it was an alternate choice which would not change the offer. No mention of an additional charge was announced. She then asked if I wanted a drink and since soda doesn't sit well me with food I said ice tea would be fine. Again,no mention that my order would have an additional charge.
Usually, I do not eat fries or drink with my meals (heath issue) but since it was a package deal I thought why not. Well much to my surprise my reasonable price lunch went from $5.99 to over $12.00 and the only explanation was I did not order a soda! As if the soda and the ice tea were not valued equally.
I explained my dissatisfaction and the owners daughter acted like I "should have known better" I mentioned that I had owned a restaurant years ago and it was successful mostly because we understood how to deal with issues like this. They could not careless about the issue and walked away smiling.... I had been duped.
In my heart I believe this type of attitude will help them perish. I just won't be promoting their business. I was upset enough to leave more than half the sandwich and fries on the plate. Not a friendly or honest place to get a bite to eat.
