I have read several ripoff reports and they all sound the same. I used a search engine to locate the item I wanted to purchase based upon the price. I was taken to Stop and Shop Digital.
I placed my order for the Canon lens and flash. I received a comfirmation email indicating that I had to contact Stop and Shop to confirm my order.
Once I was on the phone with this sleezy bag salesman, he told me Canon Zoom lens that I order was not digital and did not have some of the features most people would want (btw, I got all the product numbers off Canon's website). He told me that he could sell me a much better lens with all the bells and whistles I would need.
I explained to him I was not a professional but amature photographer and would not need the features he said I would need. He also said, he would use his employee discount to get a better price. He made it sound like the deal was too good to pass up. So I agreed.
Next he told me the Canon Flash that I purchased was not good. Once again, he said he could sell me this superior flash (high demand item) at a discount. Once again, the deal sounded to good to be true.
After he finally had me agree to change my purchase, he told me in order for him to apply his discount, he would have to minipulate the numbers on the computer to get it to total to $599.97. I said, "don't worry about where the numbers fall on the invoice ,but he would have to put $70 in the shipping field". I told him I was in no rush to get it. Nevertheless, it should up on my door step the next morning.
Once I received the items, I looked at the brands. I told him I wanted Canon, I got a generic sigma lens that say's" autofocus lens for Canon", a generic flash that say's "Power Zoom Flash for Canon".
I looked up all the items on the web and realized I could have purchased for $365. (the lens filter for $7.98, the power flash $135, and the zoomlens $150).
I tried for 5 days calling to get an RMA#. Stayed on hold forever and finally hung up each day. Today I called to place an order and reached someone immediately. Told them I needed an RMA#. They transfered me to some arrogant customer service male. He said I could not return any of the items since the 7 day grace period ended. He would be more than happy to issue me an RMA # with a 20% restocking fee -- even though I told him nothing was open.
Noted on the shipping label is their Return Policy: 35mm SLR Equipment 21 day Return Privilage Policy.
In addition to the items I purchased, I was informed I would receive: Lens Cleaning Kit (Never Received), Lens Pouch (Never Received), Lens Hood (Never Received).
I am going to file a complaint to the New York BBB, Attorney General Office -- Consumer Complaints, and the Mayors Office.
Resellerratings.com has 36 complaints against Stop and Shop Digital. I only wish I had looked up this company before I purchased anything from them. I have learned a hard lesson.
