Survey Source Services Just a heads-up about this version of the Secret Shopper scam... Lees Summit, Missouri
I received a letter that was postmarked from Canada with no return address or letterhead. My name was computer printed on the front. The letter was from the Survey Source Services and I was chosen from some survey to be hired as a secret shopper or, as they said, a Customer Service Evaluator. I didn't do any surveys.
They also included a check for $3,950.00 to be used for the secret shopping at Western Union and Walmarts. Also, I would get to keep any of the stuff purchased at Walmarts as a bonus. Oh yeah, there's the $400.00 salary for this "trial assignment".
The check looks real, at first. It has all the different colored background, official looking small print about the security of it, and it's even watermarked. Nice paper, nice printing, looks really legit but the company name on the check is from a large company that's been around for several decades, provides construction materials for contractors, engineers, etc. From the looks of their website, they don't mess with retail. The address on the check puts them in Minnesota, with their bank being in Montana. Why would they need secret shoppers at Walmarts and Western Union?
If you've received one of the nice looking checks, don't deposit it. If you start using funds from it before the bank finds out its bogus, it's going to be you that gets to cover the money loss. That sucks.
