I responded to an ad on puppyfind.com for Maltese puppies, the breeder Tanoe Reed stated that i have until 10:00 that evening to choose between the two boys she had listed, xxtra tiny $1500 and xxxtra tiny $1800 .

She said, she had several other interested parties and a women from California was calling her at 10:00 that evening and she would be purchasing whichever puppy i did not choose.

As i was looking over the pictures of the puppies i noticed she had changed the price on xxtra tiny from $1500 to $1800.

Well...at that point i chose xxxtra tiny for $1800. I phoned her to let her know. she said, she needed a $500 deposit via paypal + 3% fee. I paid, it was NEVER written, expressed or implied that the deposit was NON-REFUNDABLE.

Needless to say the other puppy was never sold. She said, my puppy could not go until 5 or 6 mo. old with him being so tiny. I agreed I didn't want the puppy to get hypoglycemia.

Later she also changed the age he could go 8 to 10 weeks now. I stated from the begining i would drive the 8 hours to pick the puppy up. She stated she would meet me along the way.

I didn't hear from her for a while and the puppies were no longer posted on puppyfind so i emailed her to see how my puppy was doing? she emailed pics the puppy looked much larger and different.

She had the same puppies posted on k9 stud.com for $1500 no variance on price according to size.

When i emailed her with my concerns, I stated all the red flags and told her i felt uncomfortable going ahead with the transaction and because of all the discrepancies i would like my deposit refunded to me.

She replied: NO REFUNDS THAT IS ALL BREEDERS POLICY.

Well i thought... if your puppies are so wonderful and people are standing in line to buy them what is the problem? I mean it was so urgent for me to make a decision because she was getting flooded with emails and phone calls just to have a chance to buy one of her a amazing, phenomenol xxxxxxxxxxxtra tiny puppies.

Well this HONEST, REPUTABLE BREEDER immediately goes to her site on puppyfind and adds non refundable deposit in her description. She was in such a hurry to do it she cut off half of her phone number with the words.

She also canceled her ad on k9 stud.com

BUYERS PLEASE BEWARE don't put large deposits on puppies until you have done all your homework on the breeder and don't be fooled by ads of show puppies, Champion imports and pedigrees. This breeder TANOE REED has never shown any of the dogs she has and i wonder just how many dogs she does have?

I have reported her to the better business bureau for: MISLEADING ADVERTISING AND IMPROPER SELLING PRACTICES.

My wonderful experience with Tanoe Reed

I was outraged to find this complaint against this VERY reputable Breeder, that had obviously been filed in haste, before the buyer gave Mz Reed a chance to resolve this. I have personally had multiple conversations with this lady, who is extremely cautious about ANY buyer who approaches her to adopt one of her Pups. Knowing the way she is, having such an inquiry, and then it turning into a multiple, ie. the second request for a Yorkie, in addition to the original Maltese, would have been a red flag for ANY responsible Breeder, as to what the potential buyer's intent is - would they indeed by going to a loving pet home, OR going to a pet store to be resold for profit, etc, etc. There are many possibilities here. As for my own experience with Tanoe. During our many conversations and emails concerning a Yorkie I was about to adopt, she answered ANY and all questions I had for her, avoided none, no matter how detailed they were. I knew upfront that my deposit was non-refundable, but because of my absolute trust in her, I had no problem with this at all. To me, it was just the first installment to the final purchase of the truly magnificent Yorkie I later received. I have adopted two Yorkies before this, a few years before, NOT from Tanoe, but two differnt Breeders, who BOTH required a non-refundable deposit. I just wish people would think carefully, investigate FULLY before smearing the name of a Breeder like this whose integrity is above reproach!

Totally non professonial option left by breeder above. She knows nothing about the transaction. I know nothing about her breeding ethics as she knows nothing about mine. There are many types of breeders and options. I am very professional with my program and it is my goal to produce the best quality puppies I can and expand my knowlege each and every day. The buyer rushed into filing this report and now very much regrets that dec. I HAVE NEVER HAD ONE UNHAPPY BUYER. Susan now has her puppies xtremely happy with her choice!.. She has been consistant in trying to remove this report and is unable to do with this webiste. I must say in the above report left by a breeder unknown to me..." There is not a need for breeders to put others down." I did not rush this buyer, I instead did her a favor by giving her first choice on 2 boys that I had another buyer wanting at the time. Spending a full day taking many photo's for her and being as discripitive as possible. Not one breeder I know can wait 3 days on a buyer to choose a puppy, when there are others interested. This would not be fair to the puppy to possibly miss out of the perfect forever home while one buyer was trying to decide. I do not know what kind of program this lady has but nothing like my own. I have Imported my dogs and total champion pedigrees. I love them like they were my babies and have a waiting list for many of my dogs. Some going to show homes. The pet prices of 1500-1800 very reasonable for the quality in my puppies. Many breeders much more than this for the puppies that are the tinies which is not my goal...but do have from time to time. This deposit was not requested back by the buyer the first 5 days...it was 3 weeks into the transaction. After I had turned down others on the puppy. To think a $500 deposit is too much, it is the normal protcol for all breeders with the puppies of this quality and deposits are never refundable with any breeder I know. When it was the buyers choice to back out...I did not push this buyer and she has apologized to me many times. For the record for those out there.. Proper Vet care for puppies and Mamma's alone can be extrmely costly. My puppies are raised beside my bed and checked on and feed all through the nite for at least 3 months. Pictures and updates are offered regularly. THe love care that goes into each puppy in my home there really could not be a price put on....as my Vet will tell you...I will never break even on my program. The health and well being of my dogs always comes first. That is why I have all happy buyers and purchased the best possible dogs I could. WHen you have invested many thousands on each dog...shed many tears, and hand feed each one through the nite if needed. I can't comprehend and of the above breeder statemnets. That is what I am referring to in their is ALL TYPES OF QUALITY OF BREEDERS AND DOGS. I try to set my standard for my program high and produce the best possible puppies I can for show or forever Pet Homes.

What this breeder did was wrong by rushing you when she had no other buyer at that moment. A reputable breeder will give you more than a couple of hours to decide. I tell buys if they are there first they get first pick and they have 3 days to decide. Yes in most cases the deposit is refundable, and NO puppyfind and paypal does not agree that deposits are non refundable, they are not attorneys and they would NEVER tell Tanoe or anyone else that. IF you pay for a dog, and don't get it, that is the only time you can file a complaint, or do a chargeback and get it back! $500.00 deposit? Tanoe, are you insane or just greedy?! You say PET quality and then you say they are imported with champion pedigree's, what does that matter if they are only pet quality? Your full of it lady! $1800.00 for pet quality? BULLLLL..That is a show quality price...MAYBE! But we all know xxxxxxxsml toys are not breed standard and your taking advantage by telling people they are going to pay that much cus the tiny's are so rare.. again..BULLLLLL.. OP: I hope you ended up with the dog you were promised.. These people charge high deposits because they know you wont walk away from that much money and it's a scam they have been pulling for along time. Unless the breeder had you SIGN a contract stating it was not refundable she has no case in court! Please buyers, beware. I have been doing this for over 25 years and I know what I am talking about.. Ask any attorney.. Also, when giving a deposit there are laws that state you have usually 5 days (some states longer) to back out and get your deposit. Whether it be a car, house or dog!

This report was made by me in haste, due to a lack of communication between the breeder and I. In my confusion and hesitation about purchasing a puppy from the internet I may have over-reacted. Since this report was filed Tanoe and I have decided to go through with the transaction. Since communicating with her and receiving her puppy contract I feel much more at ease. I feel she is a reputable breeder of quality show puppies.

NOT VALID COMPLAINT

First and foremost I would like to state that this transaction has been worked out with this particlar buyer and she has agreed to follow through with the purchase of the puppy...and is now very happy with her choice. I feel that I went out of my way to make this buyer happy. She had put a deposit down on a very small Maltese that was being offered to Pet homes only. I was getting many inquiries and gave this buyer first choice of the 2 small boys. There was never a price conflict as the smallest of the 2 smaller boys was priced slightly higher. She choose the smallest boy. I sent her udated photo's and remained consistant from before purchase on when the boy could poss go 3-5 month age depending on Vet recommendation....this never being a problem. The problem came about when the buyer expressed interest in also purchasing a Yorkie I had listed and poss the brother. This was a slight red flag to me for a PET SITUATION. I expressed to sell more one puppy being offered as Pet I would need a Vet ref. to place multiple puppies.... but would happy to follow through with the first puppy agreement. The next email I received was that this buyer wanted her deposit back. THere had been 2 weeks already into the agreement and me turning away other buyers. DEPOSITS ARE ALWAYS NON-REFUNDABLE WITH ANY REP. breeder. It was not my dec. not to follow through with the purchase it was the buyers. PUPPYFIND AND PAYPAL refusing the complaints of this buyer. I am in VERY GOOD STANDING WITH BOTH...with all positive puppy purchases and good feedback and very happy customers. PUPPYFIND AND PAYPAL IN AGREEMENT THAT DEPOSITS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. My dogs are IMPORTED AND FROM ONLY TOTAL CHAMPION PEDIGREES. There would be know reason for this buyer to state otherwise. One of my breedings being shown now and another in process. This buyer has since expressed she is sorry for any neg. comments and retracted her complaints..and is following through with the purchase of her puppy.

Im sorry and no offense to you but EVERYONE in the breeding world knows once you put a deposit down IT IS NON REFUNDABLE and many breeders don't say it anymore because most people already know this as most "deposits" in general are never refundable as the purpose of the deposit is in case someone changes their mind you have something in collateral as you could have sold that product already but someone wanted you to hold it for them so you missed out on a sale or a possibly good home for a puppy so the $500 is what she is able to keep since you made her miss out on a possible sale. That is why you should ALWAYS do lots of research on a breeder before purchasing from them. If she really did, it was not right for her to change the prices and "rush" you into buying a pup so I understand why you wanted your deposit back. I personally have had some conversations with tanoe and plan on getting my next dog from her as she seems like a very kind person and her dogs bloodlines are to die for!
