I will admit I had one bad check in October, but it was re deposited and a collection fee collected.  However, since then I cannot write any checks at telecheck places.  I can write them to pay bills.  I don't write checks much, but do on occasion.  However, it is quite embarrasing not being able to write them.  As far as my credit union. is concerned I am a good customer.  I have been with my credit union since 1999. if the merchant is in doubt all they have to do is let me call the credit union and verify the funds.  I have had several humilating calls with these people.  I feel like dirt when my check is turned down in front of my peers.  I am uncomfortable going to the grocery store for this very reason.  I know I can use my check card, but I think this is unfair and should be illegal.  This has caused much emotional distress for me.  When I talk to the representatives they inform me the following information.  I had one check to return in October, which is not bad.  However, they do not have enough information or history to approve the check. 

 I am in the process of reestablshing my check writing crediability.  Everything on my check is current.   My check number is in the 6900's so it is definitely not a new account.  I can not reestablish my check writing history if I cannot write a check.  They were no help at all.  When I asked to speak to a supervisor...I either was put on hold or got a voice mail.  Then after these two things was hung up on and then I had to start the call over and go through all the information and complaint again.   My NCSECU check account is basically frozen to many merchants such as Piggly Wiggy and Walmart.

"I think this is unfair and should be illegal"

A business should always have the right to refuse a check for payment. Use the debit card because it's more convenient, faster and widely accepted.

Checks are headed for obsolescence. Get out of the 20th century.
