Tepperman's Customer Service and Furniture Technician are deaf ignore, dumb no response and blind don't bother to look for problem Sarnia Ontario
While researching Tepperman's I discovered this site and was please to be able to vent our frustrations. It's great (or not) to know we are not the only ones being screwed by Tepperman's Customer Service.
We purchased a microfibre sofa / loveseat / chair set March 6/08. We understand that they weren't the most expensive pieces, but we did have an expectation of a certain degree of durability. We have a few other issues with this purchase, but the major problem is with the sofa.
From day one whenever we sat on the left side cushion, the seat creaked, and popped when we stood up. We faxed a letter on November 9th to Tepperman's in Sarnia where the purchase occured to question our issues, and a point in their favour they did send out a furniture technician out to inspect.
That was when it became apparent they had no plans to help, he just came for show. He spent barely 10 minutes in our home and barely said anything or answered any questions. He sat on the questionable area, had my husband sit next to him, fiddled with something (we don't know what because there was nothing there when we checked), then he left saying the office would contact us within a certain amount of time. He was definitely a man of few words.
Within a week, I believe, the customer service department from Windsor called and told us nothing was wrong, it was normal wear. I sputtered with disbelief and demanded they send someone else out because that just wasn't right. She said, "the other tech would say the same thing". Was she physic? I don't know, but that would be the only explanation other than collusion.
We faxed a follow-up letter to them on November 30th to once again dispute the technician's findings, and we asked if an INDEPENDENT furniture repair company could do an inspection. That fax went unanswered, as well as another we sent on March 31/09.
We are at the point of doing something along the legal avenue. So for evidence we pulled the staples on the underside of the sofa, and would you believe, we were right. It's a mechanical failure. The wood frame for the seat on the underside is separating from the frame for the back. Each time we sit on it (which is only rarely because of this problem) the frame tilts causing the spring (which should remain rigid) to collapse. It would only have taken this technician (I use the word loosely like they take their duties)maybe an extra 20 to 30 minutes to find the problem and arrange for repair.
This is the last purchase we are ever making from Tepperman's, whenever the flyers come in the mail I immediately tear them up and put it in the trash (does not even rate being recycled)
