Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

My daughter had contracted with the owner, Monty Benton, to manage and perform DJ services for her wedding.  At the last minute, he assigned another DJ to the job, someone with supposedly 20 years experience.  DJ assigned to our wedding arrived late and he and his two friends were wearing inappropriate wedding attire.  The DJ acted clueless about having to play the ceremony and not just the reception.  He didn't know when to play the various ceremony songs, mis-managed the ceremony (even the minister had trouble getting his attention), left the ceremony room while the ceremony was still going on, put his friend in charge of running the music, and this friend played the wrong recessional song.  DJ had to be micromanaged throughout the reception by members of the wedding party because he didn't follow the time line of events.  He mumbled into the microphone, nobody knew what he was saying.  He played the wrong songs for two of the special events (dollar dance and couple's final dance), totally ignored a verbal request of the bride, kept getting in the photographers' shots, refused to change songs until he got paid, and left an hour earlier than the owner had earlier agreed to.

When contacted with a list of problems with the whole evening, Mr. Benton refused to believe any of it could have occurred.  He said it was my word against the DJ.  He even went so far as to say that we paid for his services at a "discounted rate" and basically got what we paid for.  He was not at all concerned about this type of poor service reflecting so negatively on him and his company.  He claims the DJ is threatening to sue me because of racist comments I made regarding the DJ's ethnicity.  Yet the groom (and my new son-in-law) and the DJ are both Hispanic and that there were MANY other Hispanic relatives and guests in attendance!  He claims to work with major sports teams, charities and state officials; yet was unable to manage this small wedding.

All vendors at the wedding witnessed the DJ's incompetence and have stated they will NOT be working with Mobile Affairs DJ's in the future and will pass along the same advice to all their preferred vendors as well as industry colleagues.

Ok, who are you going to believe? The brides who paid money for a service they did not receive or the owner trying to cover his rear end and keep a business going with the negative publicity he has due to his irresponsibility and unprofessionalism? First, concerning my wedding, my husband was upset when he and the preacher walked out to the wrong music as were our guests, at which time I was not anywhere to be seen. I know how easily someone's mind can forget events when they do not care, but traditionally a bride is not anywhere in sight when a groom and preacher walk out into the ceremony. She comes out last. As for me hearing the wrong music, I was standing there waiting for the correct music to play when it was my time to walk out. That makes two different times (and the most important) during the ceremony the wrong music was played. I can see how someone can be confused though (Sarcasm). Second, what bride or groom is going to cause a scene or deal with anyone on their wedding day? No one I know, which is why we contacted the owner the very next day. Third, the "activities" the girlfriend of the owner is referring to is dancing, drinking champagne and having a good time. Also, I would like to claridy there were no favors in this transaction because both parties agreed on the price which included the DJ showing up for rehearsal, like any DJ does for a wedding. And yes we did offer food and champagne to our vendors (all of them) as any good host does and I believe the response after offering food and drink to the DJs was we were going to, not ok thank you. Who says that? What vendor decides without being asked, when working an event that they are going to eat and drink? We paid for a service not the other way around. Last, but not least, we did hire based on firsthand experience, but with another DJ, not any that worked our event, and our experience was nothing like the service we saw at my sisters wedding. What I want everyone to know and you can tell from reading the other complaints, you take a chance hiring this company for your special day. Do you want to take the chance of these situations happening at your event? The owner makes excuses and expects you to work around him and his personal life. In the business this company is in that is not the way it works. Also, we aren't in a place to say anyone is or isn't Christians, but we can tell everyone reading these people did insult our preacher, faith and church during our rehearsal by making jokes and comments. Fortunately, our preacher is used to the comments made by lost individuals. In regards to my children, they were not sick as this woman suggested and left at 8 pm. All these comments from the owner and his girlfriend are an attempt to salvage their reputation after the events written about on this site. I really think the time they are taking to make excuses for their behavior could be better spent on trying not to give any clients they may currently have these awful memories. Do your job! No one cares about or wants to hear that your 16 year old daughter is pregnant or your son that lives in another state is here to visit when you were hired to do a job on their special day. You have a job to do and if you can't do it, man up, admit it and refund the money paid. DO NOT ruin a wedding because your life is in shambles.

#3REBUTTAL Owner of company

Thu, May 13, 2010

I am Monty Benton, the owner of Texas Affairs Mobile DJ.

In response to the posting. We have done hundreds of weddings and ceremonies and five star email testimonials are always available and in fact forwarded to potential clients. We pride ourselves with the truth. But while we can't always bat "1000 %" we do bat "995 %". There are always a chance for things to come up in any situation and we do our best to solve issues whether it is our fault or something else.

The DJ assigned to this wedding has over twenty years experience. I trust him and his word. She fails to mention the pastor was almost a hour late. And the company that supplied the officiant is a business associate of mine and he said the DJ performed fine. And he will continue to do business with us.

However, as many wedding participants can attest, there are "MOMZILLAS and "BRIDEZILLAS" out there which is one reason a cable show has devoted a whole series to it. This person is just simply not stating the truth but with the advent of the internet I suppose anyone can post anything and not be held liable for it. So as a Christian I forgive them and move on. Christ never sinned and they crucified him, can you imagine if the internet was around 2000 years ago?Imagine the "Blogs"!

So my response to critics? If the complaint is legitimate I will do my best to address it and find a solution. In the meantime our references cast a "Tall Shadow" over any people throwing rocks in their glass houses.
