A few weeks ago, my husband got a call from them, claiming they are AMEX afflicted and offering awesome vacation packages...such as a 7 days resort (guaranteed 4 star and above) for very low price. My husband has been offered many travel deals before by Hilton, Hyatt so it is so easy for him to believe it is one of those and he did give them his name, phone#, AMEX card# etc. The lady said will send email to us to confirm and some signatures are required.
When we got the email, there are 3 pages attached, first page says 'terms and conditions:I am the authorized cardholder and I did authorize D Barrea Tours via phone to charge my credit card as agreed in this confirmation voucher. Confirmation voucher are Non-refundable. To re-confirm my reservation, I must call the toll free number 1-800625-7450. This confirmation voucher may not be altered or reproduced as it is governed the law of Mexico' . and there is a line under ask for our signature. The second page, is also about credit card charge, says, 'I hereby declare that I am the legal card holder and that I have authorized D Barrera Tours 11/OCT/2017. I accept the terms and conditions and the cancellation procedure'. Then below it shows credit card info we give over the phone and another line for our signature. The third page is very simple, it says: 'confirmation #:******, 2 adults 2 children, 6 days 5 nights beach destination open destination bonus 5 days 4 nights beach destination open destination 5 years to use package'.
So it seems sketchy to me. I was expecting a real purchase contract for the travel products we bought, not just pure credit card authorziations! Meanwhile, they insist on we send them a COPY OF DRIVER LICENSE, A COPY OF THE CREDIT CARD front and back, with the signature on these above pages. This made it seems real sketchy.
So I contact them without signing anything, neither sending them anything, i ask what are the resorts? They give me a very 'exciting' listing, such as Dreams, Zoetry and secrets. I was a travel agent for a while (a real one, lol) and just by looking at these names I already know what is the true value and the gap in between seems huge. In one sentence, too good to be true. Therefore, I wrote another email to them, ask are these resorts guaranteed or it will be like a timeshare, sometimes, the hot vacation destination can never be booked? How we make our reservation? This time, they told me that we need to give them COPY OF DRIVER LICENSE, A COPY OF THE CREDIT CARD FRONT AND BACK to confirm our order, so we can have an account# , then we can call their reservation department to find out. So it is not guaranteed and they admit these are the top ones on the list....
Hence to this point, i don't feel comfortable of moving forward, especially they are very very pushy on us providing them COPY OF DRIVER LICENSE, A COPY OF THE CREDIT CARD and signature on those credit authorization pages they send us. My husband wrote to them right away, says cancel, do not charge my card. I wrote cancel to them within 24 hours as well.
A few days later, our credit card is charged, without our signature, without our ID copy without our credit card copy, even we request cancel within 24 hours. Then we called our bank to dispute the charges and told the bank what happens. Another few days later, this company keeps on sending us email. It says: Dear Customer, We have received an inquiry from your bank regarding the purchase with our company. Our financial department will be issuing a refund to your credit card today but in order to do so we request a copy of your credit card, photo identification and a signed written statement of the amount that was charged to your credit card on the day of purchase. If you follow this refund procedure a refund will be issued before the end of the day!
so they still want our COPY OF DRIVER LICENSE, A COPY OF THE CREDIT CARD, lol. Now i am confident it is a scam+ID theft, consider they are located in Mexico, maybe they can use it to make Fake US passport and get into this country? I don't know.
