On Saturday Feb 4, 2006 my husband ordered a projector from thenewconnection.com, aka photoconnection.com, aka onestopcamera.com. On Sunday he found the same projector at a lower cost at another business. He emailed thenewconnection.com to cancel his order, and called their phone number (they were closed). On Monday Feb 6th he called them in the a.m. and cancelled.
The person he spoke with confirmed the cancel and said he'd get a confirmation email. When he didn't get an email by Monday p.m. he called again. The customer service person confirmed the order was cancelled, said he didn't know why the email didn't go through, but confirmed the cancel.
Two days later the cost of the projector was on our credit card! He called back to the same person he had spoken with before (he had this person's direct extension written down) and the guy denied he had ever spoken to my husband (twice)! He said that we would have to pay shipping ($70)!
My husband is normally very even tempered but at this point he became irate and said "Is this how you screw your customers so they don't come back again?" and the guy said, "How could I screw you? You don't SOUND like a girl."
At this point my husband asked for his supervisor, who said not only did they have no problems with this customer service person's rudeness, but my husband would also have to pay a restocking fee of up to $300! My husband pointed out that their online business practice made no mention of a restocking fee...and that he was going to call Visa and advise them not to pay the fees. The guy was a complete jerk.
We put in a dispute with Visa. My husband is very careful on buying over the net. He had not read any negative feedback about the company, but that is because after this happened and he started to research the company even more, it turns out that they were aka photoconnection.com, and when they kept getting horrible reviews for pulling this type of scam, they simply changed their name to onestopcamera.com and now thenewconnection.com
Needless to say the lesson of the tale is to beware... notify your BBB if this happens to you, and document everything (although in our case, we will likely get our money back, the toll it has taken has been very tiring).
