Complaint Review: Tupper Lake Residents - Tupper Lake New York

I lived in Tupper Lake most of my life and well tell you that most of the offenders that live in tupper are the ones all the rest of you dont want in your community. They go there to hide so it makes the people of tupper look bad. Maybe you should do your homework befoe you condem the whole of the people there because they are friendly hard woking people just like you. How many perverts do you have living amongst the people where you live? Ever stop to find out? maybe you shopuld,cause I bet its ar least the same nimber. Maybe your one of them!

I have been reading posts on Tupper Lake only recently, but felt compelled to reply to this one. Although I live in California, I have to agree that being placed in a facility specializing or participating in the rehabilitation process for sexual predators places them in the zip code search for said individuals. Also, I work for such a facility, and I work directly with the same type of client/consumer (they have committed sexual crimes/have been accused of doing so, but cannot stand trial due to developmental issues/mild to moderate mental retardation), behind a double fenced area (Secure Treatment Area). I am curious, however, if the rate of pay you describe is for (what we call) Psychiatric Technicians, or Psychiatric Technician Assistants (PTA/CNA), as I am a PTA/CNA, and am paid comparably. Also, I would like to know the cost of living in your area, home costs, etc. We are also a small town, and would like to know how each coast fares compares to the other... who knows, after I continue my education to fulfill the Psychiatric Technician requirements, I may be seeking a change of venue. By placing the names of those residing in the facility in your post, you breeched their right to confidetiality, at least by California standards, and if these clients/patients wanted to, they could sue you, again, by California standards... just my two cents, again.

I can not believe what i am reading about sunmount DDSO and Tupper Lake. As a member of this community my entire life i can honestly say Tupper Lake and Sunmount are none of the things these people are saying they are. Starting with the broader subject matter, Tupper Lake. Tupper Lake is a great little community. The far majority here are nice, friendly and more than willing to do there fair share to keep the community running smoothly and honestly. Unfortunately we do have the few that bring us and themselves down while they talk about the staple of our community, Sunmount DDSO. Sunmount DDSO is a wonderful place to work (in my opinion). Like any work place you do find the few that like to ostracize themselves and point out all the faults of the system in place. In-perfect, yes it is. Point out 1 state or federal job that doesn't have a little red tape and i'll give you a dollar. Sunmount does what it has to to keep the place running under STATE and FEDERAL regulations and does so with flying colors. As for sunmount being a breading ground for post-graduate Tupper Lake high school students, yes we do have our fare share of people who chose not to go to college or leave there families, friends, homes; more or less everything that is important to everyone. Tell me this though, what is better than getting a great job down the road making between $28,000 to $31,000 a year putting towards a retirement, i mean, is there anything better than that? I think not. As for the accusation that everyone at sunmount are cheaters etc. is i believe a misguided allegation from a person who was perhaps a victim and quick to call and judge on such things (there cheated on once and their instantly an expert on human personaly and social groups). Sunmount's work force is made up of both men and women who work side by side 24 hours a day. Yes you get close to your fellow employees, become friends and perhaps the few become more than friends. This more than friends phenomina i wouldn't think given my limited knowledge of other work forces would be the same as any other facility who has the freedoms we do. In my opionion people should try putting themselves in other people's shoes before they are so quick to judge people places or things.

You know what? Tupper is no different than any other small town in America. Gossip, small town corruption, boredom, etc.. The only problem is Tupper's losers found this website to post their personal gripes (mostly about Sunmount) and complaints about each other. Tupper Lake really is a quaint little town in the Adirondacks of upstate NY that has a lot of great qualities. If you like the outdoors and like to hunt, fish, hike, canoe or kayak, it's awesome. The scenery is beautiful and there is a lot to do (for those willing to get off their butts). People who grow up here and don't know how to appreciate it are the ones who post bulls*** on this site. I did grow up here and moved away for 15 years. I enjoyed my years away but also know how to enjoy my time in TL. It is what you make of it. Many residents have told me just that. "It is what you make of it." Small town, USA. Of course it has its drawbacks (for instance, having to drive 75 miles to shop for decent clothing) but, that's ok. Go do your job, deal with the crap like everyone else, collect your benefits, be happy you have a retirement and quit your bitching. It's not that bad.

I do agree with some of the points you've made, Tammy. There are several homewreckers and sluts at Sunmount. I myself was a victim of a ruthless homewrecker who didn't think twice of breaking up her own family and mine. (but thats a whole different story).

My main point is that even though there may be several losers in this town, I'm not convinced that it doesn't go on all over the country, not just Tupper Lake. It's because we're a small town that it is so widely known what goes on.

I have been in Tupper Lake and almost bought a business there. It is not as bad as Tammy claims, but I do have to say that as the lowest income county of NY State, there are a hell of a lot of people up there with practically or really nothing going for them.

It certainly didn't help with the Ames store going out of business, but at least there is a positive in the ski area opening up and soon a museum that will attract more tourists. Hopefully some of those lost jobs will come back to the area.

Being in the heart of the Adirondacks, it is miles from anywhere, and if you want to purchase any real home good of any substinance, you have to drive at least an hour in any direction to get anywhere other than Malone (another town next to nowhere close up there to Canada,eh). Not to say that this is all that bad...but it sure isn't convenient.

I've also seen the toothless wonders and true hillbilly moutain folk that come out of there, the redneck and prejudice of anyone who is from "the outside world" coming in and invading their space. That said, it still doesn't mean that they are all sex offenders either.

These are just some of the reasons I decided not to do business there...as I'm sure many others who've contemplated it have figured out similarly. That and that Tammy is not too far off that it is sort of like watching a Jerry Springer episode every time I went near downtown. Go sit on the main drag awhile and you will see she is not all that far off base.

There is slowly some new blood showing up around there buying up property around the area. I am not a fan of Tupper Lake, but there are sure a hell of a lot of worse places to live...try Schenectady or Troy sometime. At least in Tupper Lake, you won't get mugged walking down the street in broad daylight.

Although I agree with these former and present Sunmount workers that about 98 percent of this 1 percent of sex offenders are housed at Sunmount, a state institution, I do not agree with Jennifer that it is a great place in any way shape or form.

I think Sunmount breeds a post-high school place for those who don't want to leave Tupper Lake or all the drama that comes with it. Most of these people took an easy way out - no college with a 20k something salary taking care of these murders, rapists and child molesters.

The problem is, that many of Sunmount's employees are pretty low people themselves. The employees end up all sleeping with each other and cheating on their spouses or sig. others, getting put out on Administrative PAID leave for doing absolutely nothing, and pretty much wasting their useless lives at this place.

It's an offspring of what adult high school is like. All the women catfight constantly and s**t around the place.

I would say for the 1 percent of sex offenders, about 80 percent of this town and Sunmount is single mothers, sitting on their butts, collecting child support from the four or sometimes five seperate babies daddies. NOW, that's the real problem!

. First of all, there's no "ODW" employer in Tupper Lake. We Have the OWD. But, our main employer is Sunmount DDSO, which is where probably a good 75% of our residents work. It is a state job, with good pay and great benefits.

My next point is your claim that we have several sex offenders. We do have all of the registered offenders here that you claim, but they were "placed" here because Sunmount is a place to "rehabilitate" these people, therefore they technically live in the 12986 zip code. But they aren't actually members of our community because they are in an institutional type setting, and live behind the walls of Sunmount. Only 1 or 2 on the sex registry list are free citizens in our community. By law they have to be listed on the registry, though.

Since you DON'T LIVE HERE, I wouldn't expect you to know all of the facts, so don't claim to, Honny.

Just so you people know Tupper Lake is not 1% sex offenders, 99% of that list are consumers from Sunmount DDSO, it is a requirement for a sex offender to give their home address and even though they are locked up they will be shown as living at 12986. If you look up any town that has a prison it will appear to be the same way.

As a former employee of Sunmount, and life long resident of Tupper, I can tell you exactly why there are so many registered sex offenders. Sunmount is home to CIT (Center for Intensive Treatment) and other units like it. RBITU, LIT. These programs are designed for rehabilitation. (yeah right) All participants in these programs are 1) Diagnosed w/ MR or TBI before the age of 21, and 2) have committed a crime and are found in-competitent to stand trial. The majority of these people, about 70-85% are sex offenders. Because they live in the 12986 are code (Sunmount) They are all registered in our town. If you look at a town w/ a prison systemt, the stats will refflect as well, as their home address is that of the facility they live, so it will create the appearance of high violent crimes,sex offenders, etc in the area. Nearly all those people names listed on this post, i have personally worked with at the CIT,LIT and RBITU. Sex offenders yes, but noy from our communiy. Most have come from the Nassau/Suffolk Counties (Near NYC)
