The same thing happened to me. It's a shame that companies like this try to hide that kind of stuff from you. Thats why I trust the best RC brands in the hobby like Traxxas and Team Losi. Not only are their trucks the best on every level, their customer service is top notch as well.

I did the same for my little brother last year. It wasn't the shell shocker, he's older than 5, so I figured he could handle a little more vehicle. First question I asked was if it came with a battery. This is something you need to find out. RC cars are a lot different than when I was younger. They no longer run off 'AA' batteries. They require a 9.6v (at least) battery and a battery charger. The second thing I did when I bought the car was test it out myself. There is nothing worse than buying a family member a defective present.
