I am confused, if you were a victim of identity theft, why do you owe them any money at all?

I too was contacted by someone at Ellis Crosby and Associates. The person who called me told me that they were an attorney and that I had to pay almost $100 for a $300 loan because they kept attempting to debit my bank account but the money wasn't there (because I was the victim of an advance-loan scheme, never received the loan I was supposed to get, and therefore, couldn't pay for the cash advances I took to get the loan). They threatened to file criminal charges against me and since I'm going to law school, I had to make sure that wasn't true. I ended up making a settlment with them for about $500 so that they wouldn't file charges. I contacted my attorney and filed a civil lawsuit against them for numerous violations of the fair debt collection act. At first they ignored my lawsuit and right before a default hearing was set in my case, they contacted the court and asked for a continuance. If I were you, I would sue them as well and put them out of business once and for all. If you want the name of the attorney I used, let me know.
