As an HVAC contractor I think the company should have sent someone out to at least check the situation. I also think that the gas company employee made a big deal out of a minor problem and caused you un-needed worry. It usually only takes a minute or two to re-connect a vent pipe. If United Restoration cared about their customers they would have come out and corrected the problem. That is the only way a company builds a loyal customer base in the community.

This is the state body we file complaints of this type with in Arizona - I'm sure California has something similar, but it may mean doing more skimming through the gov't section of the phone book than anyone would prefer. They investigate complaints and try to assist the consumer with any valid complaints they have. They helped my husband and I with a jerk of an air conditioning contractor - ended up with new central air unit. Good luck!
