This is the second serious complaint I've had against this Park River Post office! I run a small family owned business and ship out daily to the tune of about $300.00+ worth of postage a month. Perhaps that's not making the Park River post office rich, but they are supposed to offer friendly PROFESSIONAL service.
They clearly do NOT offer this type of service. Instead they call me a liar, fraudulently charge me more money for postage after I have weighed my packages and printed out online labels from their online Ship and Click Service.
My first complaint went directly to Mr. Potter himself the CEO of the United States Post office. Well, they did replace the local Post Mistress, perhaps because of this I'm not certain. However, we are back at the same problem with the new Post Mistress. Just a sweeter version of the same poison if you ask me! I recently was asking them why they were weighing each and every package I shipped with them. I ship roughly 20-50 packages a week with this office, I was told "We have to weigh all packages". I found that to be a very odd thing to say, since I've taken packages to other local post offices in our area and they are delighted not to have to deal with any of them. They are posted and ready to go so they just set them in the out-going mail pile.
So once again, I'm being ripped off by our local post office. To make matters worse, they are once again referring to my business as a non-entity. I've been in business for over 11 years and I've been shipping things all over the world during all that time. Additionally, I have a business license in the state of ND and a store front! How they can justify talking to me in this derogatory manner and refer to my business as a "non-entity" is something I just can't fathom. They are rude, disrespectful and file false comments to their superiors to justify their actions.
Recently, they 'accepted' two packages for delivery, but then tried to get me to pay more postage (this had previously happened the week before and I paid the extra fee to get my customers package out the door right away). This time I told them to return the packages to me and I would check them myself and send them out from another office. They did return the packages, but still had them marked as accepted for delivery and I was denied a refund on those shipping labels. I still have those labels in my possession and I reprinted labels to be shipped from another post office.
This other post office had no problems with my weights or my packages and shipped them in a timely manner. This delayed my customers orders by 2 days! I still have not received a refund on the first two shipping labels. I've repeatedly been told to bring my scale to them so they can celebrate it for me. Would they ask Sears, AT&T, Microsoft or any other major corporation to bring them their scales for calibration? I think NOT! It would do no good anyway. They would just do it all over again and say we must have bumped our scale and that we must bring it back in for re-calibration!'
Recently I came across a post where USPS had been promoting that they are seeking more business from small office/home office or home based businesses (SOHO) and that they will give them a scale to use so they can benefit from the same system they use in their offices. In truth I think they try to sell the scale not give it away. This is good in theory, but then you get the small town post office that re-weighs every package the SOHO's ship out and scrutinizes them fiercely. Why should the SOHO's put up with this kind of hassle? We can get professional service from UPS or just about any other large shipping company.
Furthermore, this small town post office has refused to acknowledge us as a SOHO even though we possess a store front, a resale license and have a full fledged online store for the past 11 years! I think the USPS in general is only out to serve themselves not the small businesses and that is where they should be trying a bit harder to please, so they don't lose our business. Either that or they should hang up their key and give it up!
