This is a SCAM--don't use this website.  All I wanted to do was go online and renew my passport.  The first website that came up looked like an official govt site--called US Passport Online. 

I filled out the information and at the end was told would receive a callback shortly. Person called back to confirm and told me I would be charged their $129. plus the US govt charges.  I told her I thought she was with govt, cancel my order and issue me a credit.

It was 45 min. from time ordered till cancelled.  She said there would be a $45 charge for cancellation.  This is a total SCAM and I will dispute with my credit card company.

 all of you frustrated and upset folks, my heart truly goes out to you but the rebuttals are actually correct. (if a bit harsh).
any time you choose to enter a credit card and personal info there should be a completely responsible and thorough understanding of what you are purchasing and in this case, a US passport is even more worth a little research.
seriously, i don't work for these folks but i do the same work. no reason to lie about something i have not only been successful at but have experienced great satisfaction and reward from.  accomplishing the extraordinary for someone in dire need is an awesome feeling.

we have some reviews such as these & on this very site even.
there are inevitably instances where circumstances leave a client unhappy, this is not my goal or that of anyone in my company but it happens. it happens in EVERY business, perhaps even yours?

my advice is simple.   before embarking onto the fast-track and seemingly effortless passport-in-a-few-days journey- be prepared. however mislead you may feel if things do not work in your case, the fact remains that the facts are & always were available.    another fact is that were i soliciting right now, i could also show you hundreds of real, intelligent and inspirational rave reviews about such services!   not just mine either.

 so be informed and listen to whomever is trying to help you!  if you and that person cannot communicate then ask for someone else.  if your assigned customer service rep is not confident and genuinely concerned, ask for someone else!  this really is just as much your responsibility.  

finally, ( since we've all probably been guilty of these at least once, right?)  nobody is responsible for another's poor judgement,  lack of preparation or poor listening skills..  even mine :)

Yes, people should be more careful. Yes, they should note the .com vs the .net.  But seriously,  you think US passport.com doesn't pay dearly to come up first in the search engine?  You think that "Authorized by the state department" line isn't deliberately misleading?  You think that they don't bury their $45 non-refundable fee way at the bottom of a scroll down menu isn't intentional?

I'm not buying you are not involved with this company, otherwise why would you be defending such a deliberately misleading website, that clearly is aimed towards internet naivete? Yes people should be more careful, but businesses also should be ethical, and this business is far, far from it.

I was decieved by the "authorised by the US state department" at the top of their web page.

I called the US State department and they assured me that they in NO WAY authorized uspassportonline.com..


I gave the company hell but they steadfastly refused to refund the $45 fee. they told me several lies about how they pay the state department 45$ to reserve a passport.  when I found out that was a total lie by calling the state dept, they changed their story to we pay another company to reserve it. and "it gets automatically charged when you submit the form"

bottom line. these people are scum and will keep ripping people off till a law enforcement agency steps up and shuts them down...

He stated the obvious.

Your lack of investigating the results of the search engine resulted in your ordering a passport from a company that does not work for the government. Did you see the .com at the end of the hostname? If this was a government site it would have been .gov.

If you would have gone further down the list of sites you would have seen the state department site. Plus I am pretty sure there are disclaimers on the site saying they are not affiliated with the government.

This site is not a SCAM as you put it. They are merely a middleman and evidently a trusted site as well meaning that they DO NOT ripoff people that know what they are doing and take responsibility for their actions.

Obviously the rebuttal was from an employee of US Passport Online--it stated exactly what they told me when I contacted them!!!

  Looked like?   It looks nothing like a government website.   This would only fool someone who likes to go by the pictures instead of actually reading what the site says about itself.   For pete's sake, it says right on the front page, in bold type : We are a privately owned company specializing in the procurement of passports in the shortest amount of time.

  If you made even the most cursory look at this site, there would have been no question it was a private site.

  By the way, you should consider this a wake up call.   You went on the Internet and gave all of your personally identifiying details to a site you obviously knew nothing about.    It could just as easily have been a scam site to steal your identity.   If you don't change your Internet habits, it's only a matter of time before you are really ripped off.
