I too was a victim of phone fraud through the internet. Other victims beware that putting a block on your phone is NOT enough because the calls billed by USBI on my phone bill to Guinea-Biscc and Diego-Garcxx in the Indian Ocean were made during an online transaction. I found a website, Sexexplorers.com that only asks you to call them to obtain an access code, no ID or credit card required!, and then you are connected to that site, being charged for the time through your phone line.

I was in bed, computer in the shop, and can't dial up while online so there is no way I was on line with countries in the Indian Ocean at 1:00 am and as many of you reported, at prime time. The charges were incorrect for the time.

I also had to contact my internet subscriber to block these calls (phone co is not enough!) and installed firewall protection, spybot and adware which I run every week. With the block online and on the phone, hopefully there will be no more exorbitant and mysterious charges from USBI. By the way, the first time I contacted USBI and got through, they would not identify themselves and simply repeated like a robot that "it's your phone line." I tried to call them a second time after I read the info on this website and scam alert articles at FTC, but it rang and rang to no avail. Also, One-Call-A-Com does not answer.

Navicom and One-Call-A Com are apparently the billing entities on line for the websites that involve incurring LD phone charges with the merchant. USBI and Navicom would not divulge their name OR the name of the merchant even though I indicated as the party being charged, I had a right to know what I was being charged for. I did file a report with local county police but was told my case did not qualify for an investigation!

I was a victim of bank fraud with the same elusive internet access. My bank informed me the user did not require an ID! So, please make sure you call your phone company AND your online subscriber to block use of your phone number in both types of communication. How can we organize a class action suit? I have yet to resolve the issue with USBI.

My phone co said even though the calls were removed from my local bill, USBI would still bill me and pursue collection, thus affecting my good credit, if I did not pay. Please everyone, let's keep each other apprised of any new developments. This is an outrageous scam!
