I've been a loyal Verizon Wireless customer for more than 5 years. Their plans are expensive and they don't have the best handsets, but at least I thought I could always count on their customer service if something went wrong. In fact in the past I had been.

Four years ago I had a problem with a phone I'd bought a couple months back and they just handed me a new one at a local store. So my expectation was to be treated similarly four years later when the Treo 700p I'd paid $450 for suddenly stopped working 3 months after receiving it.

But to my great shock Verizon Wireless said they would only be willing to replace the phone under warranty with a "previously enjoyed" phone. I was very disappointed with the outcome as I feel like I was a victim of bait and switch even though they did point out to me in the fine print of the warranty the language about receiving a refurbished phone in the event of a warranty replacement.

After 5 years of paying my high voice and data plans on time every time I will be looking to change carriers. I know the other carriers are probably the same but since I know now Verizon Wireless isn't any better I might as well get a nicer phone like perhaps the AT&T/Cingular iPhone. It's always said when good companies go bad.

Refurbushed phones not quality!

I got a new Verizon phone (Incredible 2) about 30 days ago.  It ended up getting a line in the screen after less than 30 days of owning it. It was never dropped or got wet.  I took it back and got a new phone (refurbished) under the manufactures warranty, upon the advice of a store associate.

The phone I was sent was way worse than the one I returned.   The vibrate feedback did not function properly and there were paint chips in the phone, on top of that when I took it to the store the sales associate helping me erased all my contacts.  I had that phone sent back and got another one, believing this just was just a fluke.

On this phone, the second refurbished phone that was sent, the icons at the bottom are blurry, like there is an overlay on them going the wrong way.  It is something minor but my original phone didn't have this problem and only goes to show the quality of the refurbished phones, and that the problem with the other phone was not a fluke but has become a pattern.

I went to the store each time I had a problem and they haven't been much help, other than referring me to tech support, and made it worse by erasing all my contacts.  If I knew I had to go through all this trouble I would have kept the first phone or sent it to HTC to be repaired.

Two people in my family received refurbished phones over a year ago. They are excellent phones. With all due respect, you're making a rash judgment. Plus, if you want a brand new one, call the manufacturer, instead of Verizon. Problem solved.

Refurbished Phones Are DEFINITELY Bad

Respectfully, "M", you don't know what you're talking about. Case in point -- the "like new" Verzion pawned off on me failed after 3 days of use. Still think refurbs are good? Think again.

Well, that's the electronics industry for you.....

Truth is, that what you've experienced is nothing more than what is common for the electronics industry.....and especially with cell phones. While Verizon can replace your phone, they won't do so with a brand new phone as it COSTS MONEY.....and they DO NOT manufacture the phones. Therefore, they're having to return the handset to the manufacturer. The manufacturer gives "refurbished" phones to replace those that stopped working for whatever reason. Refurbished basically means "factory reconditioned"....they are NOT inferior phones. They have simply been run back through the manufacturing process from the ground up.....and are like new. Verizon gave you a phone comparable to the one you gave them......one that was refurbished that was around 3 months old from being bought. Refurbs are NOT bad.
