Vic Koenig Chevrolet They will lie and try to talk you out of buying a used car (for their commission) Carbondale, Illinois
I came in one day looking for a used car no older than a 2007. I specifically said that I want my payments to be between 250-300 per month, and my credit score is in the mid-600s. He says "ok", takes down my information, and gives it to the "people in the back" for them to look at and run some numbers. When he came back he says that he has the perfect car for me too look at. I ask him what kind of car it is and his response was "just trust me." Huh? All I asked for was the make and model of the car...this seemed sketchy, but I walked outside to see what kind of car it was anyway. It was a brand new 2012 Chevy Sonic. I could've sworn that I asked for a USED car, but whatever. As he's explaining the specs (which weren't all that great seeing as how my 98 Camaro had more perks than this thing), I keep asking him how much the car is and how much would my monthly payments be. He keeps insisting that I test drive it, and that the "guys in the back" are working with the banks right now to see what they can do. I said "ok, but only if the payments will be in my range because I'd hate to waste your time." After test driving the car, we went back inside to discuss the financial things. He explains to me that they would offer $1500 for my trade in and my monthly payments would be around $400/month.....I told him that I wouldn't accept that and we should go look at other used cars. He then insisted that I stick with this new car, because the cost that I pay for gas now would be offset in the payment since the Sonic gets great gas mileage. I told him AGAIN that I'm not willing to do that. The point here is to save money, not go broke with high monthly payments. He keeps insisting that I get this new car, and each time he says it I keep turning him down. He says that the reason he's not going to show me a used car is because banks don't do loans on them. THIS IS A LIE! I work at a bank (didn't get my financing through them, because I don't like the way they do certain things and want to keep that separate from my job) and we do loans all the time on used cars as long as they are not older than 2007! He then says well we have a "buy here pay here" service here and I can show you something used if you can agree to that. I wanted to see what kind of car it was, so I said "sure, what kind of car is it?" Again, the guy says "just trust me or we can stop right here." EXCUSE ME?! That's disrespectful, and I deserve to know what kind of car it is so that I will not be wasting my time. I walk outside to see the car, and it was a 2000 Jeep Laredo. It looked ok, but there was some funny rattling noise under the hood. At that point, I was done! Never do business with these guys! If you're not trying to boost their commission, they will try and sell you a piece of crap. This is the WORST experience that I've ever had with salespeople!
