In March,2009, we were on our way to Florida when we stopped at a roadside booth in northern Florida advertising cheap and free tickets to Disney World and Sea World attractions.  We thought we were getting a great deal on tickets so we purchased some but had to set up an appointment to pick them up at Westgate Lakes Resort in Orlando, Florida. 

After receiving a free breakfast, we found ourselves in the middle of a sales presentation to buy a timeshare from Westgate Resorts.  We were not intending to purchase a timeshare but we listened to the sales pitch of Barry Gold.  He told us that my fiance and I could save a lot of money on hotels and suites by using our Westgate membership benefits to stay in high class upstanding hotels and suites at a huge discounted rate.  We were told that our membership would guarantee us rooms of equal or better value than those at the Westgate Resorts.  We still were unsure of this purchase and really decided we didn't want to purchase a timeshare but Barry then brought his sales manager, Alicia Quiroga, to our meeting and lowered the price of our purchase to make it more appealing.  They convinced us we would save a lot of money because we did so much traveling and also because my fiance drives truck he would be able to save a lot of money while on the road by calling Interval International to set up his hotel suites in upstanding high class hotels at a discounted rate.

During our travels this past summer to Colorado, we attempted to use this benefit for hotels but when we called Interval International to reserve a room, the representative from Interval informed us that was not her job to do so and that Westgate must have misinformed us and that was not part of their agreement with Westgate.  She told us that Interval International could set up getaways and exchanges for 2 days or more at a time but that we had to get on-line to set up those services and they needed more than a day's notice to do so.  When we told the representative from Interval that we were in the middle of Colorado at night and needed the services that we believed we purchased from Westgate, she directed us to a cheap, filthy, and roach-infested motel in a bad part of town. 

The next day, I called Westgate Resorts to complain and they said they couldn't be responsible for what Interval International does because they are two separate companies.  However, I informed the Westgate representative that we purchased the timeshare primarily because of the benefits we were told by Barry Gold and Alicia Quiroga we would get while traveling.  She then asked if I got any of that in writing and I told her "no" because I thought they could be trusted that they were being honest about the benefits.

I'm a teacher and can only travel at certain times of the year and every time we've attempted to use our benefits, we were in the middle of "black out dates".  We still haven't been able to utilize any of our benefits we thought we were purchasing from Westgate Lakes Resorts.

After many unreturned phone calls to Barry Gold, Alicia Quiroga, Dustin Vizueta, and many other Westgate representatives, we are just wanting to get rid of our timeshare at Westgate Lakes and be done with Westgate altogether.  We have been lied to, misinformed, and conned out of too much money to trust anything they say anymore!!

Hi ex employee,

I would love your advice or knowledge on the subject.  I was lied to and tried to cancel 1 day too late my timeshare in Miami back in 2001.  I currently have about 3 yrs of maintenance owing (odd yr ownership), as I decided to try and sell 6 yrs ago (to no avail) and to stop paying.  I am not a US citizen but used to live in Miami.  I moved from the States and therefore WGate couldnt contact me.  I was approached by a fake potential buyer on a website I had advertised to sell the timeshare.  This made me contact Wgate and also contact the collectors to see how much was owing.  They call me alot now.  

Collections have advised me that Wgate is very patient and will wait until there is alot more owing, and then they  'could' foreclose and you loose the property and still have to pay what is owing.  Now it is 3000 with all the interest, but in the future this would be alot if it went to court.

Everyone is always talking about stopping paying, but of all the research I have done online, I cant find anywhere, the consequences of someone it has actually happened to.  Just that it will happen.

My question to you is... does Wgate do foreclosures and/or sue for the owing fees as the collectors suggest?  How common is it?  Also do you know if they are able to enforce money from a foreigner?  Have you ever heard of it?

I dont want to pay them another dime.  The collectors are giving me an option of paying only 2000 to them to give it back to Wgate, or pay whats owing in total and keep the stupid thing. 

You must be proud of yourself for LEAVING such a company.  I would really appreciate your time if you have any knowledge on the above.

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles, although I'm not surprised! Westgate has been lying to people many, many years with no remorse. Why??? Because the Siegel's, David, Richard, and Barry, know for a fact that you, nor anyone else for that matter, will do ANYTHING about it! You will do nothing but come to places like this and complain. And they will, in return, get to keep several thousand of your hard earned dollars! I'd let you complain about me all you wanted if you gave me a couple thousand bucks. I can help anyone that asks though. I'll give you all the info you need, just post here and I will respond. We were told to lie. And as far as Dustin Vizueta goes, one of the biggest problems at Westgate! By the way, he is now over the deeding/closing department at Westgate Gatlinburg. Meaning he is responsible for all contracts going out. It's very hard to get in touch with him because he wants no one to have his number and he will ONLY answer or return calls if his supervisors at the corporate offices  receive complaint calls about him. But I will give you the numbers HE IS SUPPOSED TO GIVE so owners can get in touch with him. First his 2 cell phones, call leave messages but most of the time he lets his cells voice mail fill up and refuses to answer/erase them so it may not let you leave a message. You can also text him! Wear it out! Dustin Vizueta's cell #s: His Florida cell 1-407-436-4632...     His Gatlinburg cell # 1-865-850-6625.... He has both cell phones with him at all times so call both. Now his direct line to his office is: 1-865-430-4800 ext 85673. Now if you call and he refuses to answer like normal, call his supervisors at 1-800-825-9999. Tell whoever answers that you need to speak with whomever is over Dustin Vizueta in the deeding department in Gatlinburg. You will be stunned how fast they'll answer! His email is [email protected]. Again, keep records of the emails you send and when you send them because his bosses will LOVE to know how long i took you to get a response. Anyway, I really hope this helps someone! And again if ANYONE needs ANY info, let me know, I WILL GIVE YOU ANYTHING YOU NEED ABOUT WESTGATE!!!
