First of all, I have been burned by Norton as well. This caused me to learn the hard way.
When using Norton, you MUST manually check for updates frequently even if you have it set to check automatically.....
AND, most important, you MUST reboot your system FREQUENTLY. This is the only way Norton will protect your registry files. Updates may be downloaded, but you are not fully protected until you reboot...even if you are not prompted to reboot.
Now, manually check your security settings, as they are most likely set way too low.
And, block pop ups while you are at it. Also do a manual Windows update check.
I do mine daily.
XP????
Wow.
Might be time to upgrade!
