I just wanted to correct the previous info given. As an employee in T-Mobile's fraud dept I wanted to correct Sylvie's info. Since this acct is not only in collections but has been sold the only way to dispute it is with AFNI. T-mobile no longer owns the acct and all disputes must be handled by them. If you contact AFNI and let them know, they do have a dispute process they will advise you of. Also keep in mind that depending on how old the acct is, which since it was sold to them is probably from before 2003, T-Mobile took over other carriers so this actually may be a Voicestream or Omnipoint acct. So you may want to check if you ever had service with one of them. If so then this may be a bill you never paid. If not then definitely file a dispute with AFNI. Also you should check you credit report with all 3 of the credit bureaus due to if you are a victim of ID theft they may have opened other accts using your info.

AFNI is one of the worst third party collection agencies

go to www.budhibbs.com for more information Send them a cease communications letter via certified mail with return receipt requested - make copies of everything They call you again let the machine/voice mail pick it up - In the State of Texas anyone person/agency that wants to collect debts must file with the Secretary of State and pay a surety bond Check with your State to see if debt collectors must pay any fee to the State in order to do business Good luck keep us informed

The bottom line here is that AFNI is bad news... AFNI buys old time-barred debts where most of the time they cannot find the original account holder, so they go after people with similar names and/or addresses as the original account holder. AFNI's specialty is posting negative info on the credit reports of these people to get money. AFNI is well known for stalling the debt validation process through further requests for ID or having the person file identity theft reports.

Then explain why they posted as an 'employee'.

The report is about AFNI, not T-mobile and they chose to post as an 'employee'. Hence, one can only come to the conclusion that they are indeed an 'employee' of the company complained about which is AFNI.

No. It doesn't work that way at all.

'If you never opened that account with T-Mobile that means that you're a victim of identity theft.' >> No it doesn't unless you are admitting that your 'company' is trying to steal their identity to apply to to this debt. It is up to YOU to prove this debt is indeed theirs. 'This is not an issue that T-Mobile takes lightly and as a customer care rep I can assure you I fill out many fraud forms a day.' >> But you are not Tmobile. You are a third party collection agency bound by the FDCPA. You must provide proof of debt....not the other way around. 'If you speak with the collection agency that this account has been assigned to they can provide you with the account number, then contact T-Mobile at 1-800-937-8997 and let them know the account number and that you did not open this account, we'll then file a fraud form and our special fraud team can investigate and wipe the account from your name. If you truly didn't open this account then you have nothing to worry about.' >> If they can allegedly contact Tmobile (doubtful) then why didn't you state this from the very beginning? Your desperation to get their information is laughable. There is no need for YOU to do anything other than prove the debt is theirs. If there is indeed some identity theft, YOU are the last people that need to be involved. Why didn't you instruct them to go file a police report that would be needed? Why wouldn't you instruct them to pull their credit report and look for signs of fraud beside your false listing that is probably on there already?

AFNI's response will almost always be to fill out an identity theft form...DON'T DO IT....they'll use the personal info you supply against you...Furthermore, they use this tactic to stall validation of the debt.
