In late 2003, I sold a number of items on E-Bay and used U.P.S. to ship them. U.P.S. billed me promptly. I paid the $93.14 to U.P.S.,however U.P.S. did not promptly credit my account. They did promptly turn it over to Allied Interstate for collection. The account was paid in full, to U.P.S. in February of 2004 and turned over to Allied in March. I have since received a letter from Allied each month since then, demanding payment. Each month I contact U.P.S. who tells me they will notify Allied that an error was made and the account is actually paid. Allied continues to report this account as delinquent and has now began sending tougher letters. U.P.S. continues to inform me that all they can do is notify Allied that the account is P.I.F.

Calling Allied is a useless venture since you wait on hold forever. If your lucky enough to get a live person, they will tell you that the company who reported you has to make the correction, or you have to send them the cancelled check.

First of all I would never send them a cancelled check with my account number on it. Number 2, I don't get cancelled checks, I use carbons. I would have to pay the bank for a copy of the cancelled check, use my office supplies and apply my 37 cent stamp. While this doesn't sound all that difficult, why should I have to pay upwards of $7.00 to correct an error between U.P.S. and Allied Interstate. I have grown tired of incompetency among our corporations and they're clerical staffs. No-one knows how to correct this problem from U.P.S., no-one wants to correct it at Allied Interstate and We The People have to keep on taking this crap. I own my own business and occasionally need to use a collection agency to recover payments. I've never had a problem getting someone proper credit on an account.

Although a conference call sounds like great solution the odds are it will never happen. The reason is that Allied Interstate is a collecion agency. They have nothing more to do with UPS than that. Your claim is one of thousands and they don't care who you are or what you problem is. The person you talk with on the phone is playing a numbers game and could care less about you. Statistically they have one of the highest turn around rates of any industry. SO, the person you talk with today probably won't even work there when you get the next call. He/she just cares about getting money out of you. There are federal laws that bind these collection companies from doing certain things. You need to first send them a letter telling them to cease all communication with you. Allied INterstate is one of the worst dirty dogs out there. Tell them in the letter you have paid the bill and have proof and will ONLY deal with UPS not a collection agency. Send the letter certified us mail. Once they recieve the letter they legally can only contact you ONE time thereafter to ask you your intentions on the claim. If they contact you again report them to the federal trade commision. If they continue you can sue them and obtian up to $1,000 dollars. There are many attorney's out there who would gladly take your case without costing you a thing unless they win. Don't let these scavangers take advantage. They are bound by laws and they regulary break them. Collections is a billion dollar business. You won't get anywhere by being nice or by doing what they say. Do what the law says. You are not helpless to the mongrols! Never give them information on you and be sure to include in your letter that you will take action if anything negative is placed on your report. Good luck!

Conference call?

Is it possible to get both companies together in a three-way conference call? That way, they could immediately hear what the other company needs, and you could come to a resolution right then and there. No more back-and-forth. You should also ask UPS to send you a letter, or invoice, showing that your account is indeed paid off. If it does go on your credit report as a non-payment (and you might want to check if it has), then you can write a letter to the company disputing the charges. At that point, they have to prove that you don't owe it. You could send them the copy of the paid-in-full invoice. I hope you get this taken care of!
