I had used AT&T as my cell phone company. When my contract had expired, I cancelled my services and went with a new cell phone company. They continued sending me monthy bills, even after I had sent them a certified letter to cancel my services. Finally after numerous phone calls to AT&T, they cancelled my phone. Now Palisades is trying to collect money from me for cancelling AT&T's services. They claim that when I was in an AT&T store and purchased a new cell phone (my current one was broken) I began a new contract. When I asked them to send me this ''contract'' they stated that there isn't a written contract. They are trying to get $ out of me for what they claim was a verbal contract. They are ruining my credit score for a verbal contract that never existed.

They claim that when I was in an AT&T store and purchased a new cell phone (my current one was broken) I began a new contract. ========== If you purchased your AT&T phone at a discounted rate from the regular full price...by default your contract is extended...usually two years. There is nothing unique to AT&T about this...T-Mobil, Verizon and Sprint all will automatically extend your contract if you get a "free" or heavily discounted phone. This information should have been disclosed to you up front or it should have been noted on the display showing the discounted price. Finally after numerous phone calls to AT&T, they canceled my phone. =========== You can cancel your cell phone service with any carrier at any time...if your contract is not up you have to pay with cancellation fee. Palisades Collection is a particularly bad, bottom-feeder collection agency that has a history of trying to damage your credit file. The fact that Palisades Collection has your account tells me that your account may in fact have been canceled. This doesn't matter to Palisades. I would recommend contacting AT&T to see if your account was "really" canceled prior to your contract being terminated. DO NOT trust Palisades Collection with giving you the correct info on this...they are liars. If the answer is "yes," unfortunately you have no way of proving that you not outside of your contract and you may have to pay this fee to clear your credit. If you do pay, get the terms IN WRITING first before you give Palisades Collection one penny. Be aware that Palisades Collection is a particularly bad, vicious agency....be very careful in dealing with them. More info at: budhibbs.com/debtcollectorpages/palisades_collections_cmts.htm
