I bought a laptop in 2004 and my hard drive crashed 2 times. The first time when it crashed, it was covered by the warranty. But the second time, it was not cover. The second time that my computer crashed, April 2005, it took Dell a month to get me a hard drive.

I kept calling them daily asking for a update, they kept changing the story on when my order wasd going to be sent out. Then on the 3rd week, they broke down and told me that there was a back order on a part on the hard drive that I ordered.

It was in the 3rd week that they told me the truth. I will not buy another Dell Computer from them. I will not deal with their sorry overseas tech support, if I get a overseas tech support, I will hang up on them. Dell has sold out to low cost to paying some overseas tech support like in India where you cannot understand them.

I feel that I can not depend on Dells Tech Support anymore, and have made my laptop computer a stand by computer. I went to my local electronics store, and bought me a full blown system.

I got me another brand, I had little trouble with the wireless keyboard, called the tech support for this other brand, they spoke english, I had me a new keyboard in 2 days. I am very happy with this OTHER company. I can't do much with Dell or can't deal with Dell. I have had my otherone for 3 weeks now, very pleased. I don't know what else to say about Dell, but they have low marks in my book with having very poor service.

#2Consumer Suggestion

I'm sorry to inform you of this, but they lied to you to the very end. The hard-drives that Dell (as well as nearly every other PC manufacturer anywhere) buys do not come in "parts" but as single units. If there was a backorder, it was for the whole hard-drive, not just for a "part" of it, and I can't believe they tried to sell you this crap. I usually have no problems with Dell, as many of my clients own their PCs and have had decent return experiences (we'll not go there on the over-seas tech support). I'm also not trying to be rude, but I do remind you that after you're out of warranty, its all fair game. Any part can take any amount of time or be replaced with something close. This applies in any field of consumer electronics today.
