I found www.downloadnova.com when searching for downloadable music. Specifically, I was trying to get a copy of Jerry Jeff Walker's It's A Good Night For Singing album as a Christmas present for my father. The site claimed to have the album available for download, so on Sunday, December 7th (2008), I agreed to pay them $4.87 and signed up for their 3-day trial.

They sent me a confirmation e-mail, which included my login information. They gave me access to a site called www.megadownloadpass.com which only offers pornography and was never something I was interested in. Every time I tried downloading music, I received the same error message: Server Access Denied. You must be logged in to download.

On Monday (12/8), I tried calling 1-888-532-1682 for technical support, but only reached an answering machine and no one ever called me back. I tried their contact support' option, as well as www.customersupporthelp.com, but again there was no response. On Wednesday (12/10), I gave up on downloadnova and sent them an e-mail asking for a refund. I received an automated reply.

That same day, I signed up for another 3-day trial with another website also advertising Jerry Jeff Walker available for download, www.downloadprofessional.com. Again, I received another confirmation e-mail. (I was unaware that this site was overseen by the same company.) This time, I was never able to login at all. The site always gave me the same error message: Sorry, the login information you have provided does not seem to be correct. Please try again. despite the fact that I was using the exact same login information they gave me in the confirmation e-mail.

Two days later, Friday (12/12), I got a call from Chase asking about some recent charges on my mastercard. In addition to the two charges for $4.87, the Chase representative also said I was being charged $39.73. I told the representative that I never approved the additional $39.73. I tried calling 1-888-532-1682 again, leaving a message on their machine.

I received an e-mail from someone named Donna, claiming she was a customer service representative. She explained that my membership automatically rebills for $39.73 at the end of the 3-day trial. This was never mentioned on the sign-up pages, nor was it mentioned in the confirmation e-mails.

I am fully convinced that downloadnova and downloadprofessional are fraudulent websites. I have since cancelled my old credit card.
