Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
In June I contacted Father and Son Autos (located in Lynbrook, NY - I bought the car off an Auto Trader ad) about a 2004 BMW 325 ci convertible. I asked him if it was in good shape, does the paint look good? He acted like he went outside and did a walk around of the vehicle.

FATHER AND SON AUTO CORP (LYNBROOK, NY) Also had the car listed in Auto Trader. It said the car was excellent and still under full factory warranty!!

Sounded good to me AND the price seemed good! I buy the car and have it shipped to Atlanta, Ga where I live. Well, surprise surprise. It wasn't at all as he described!

Below is a list of the issues when the car arrived:

The two left rims had serious curb rash and dents in them - have to replace because the rims are BENT! (MY COST: $800 with tires)

Dent under the left rear break light

DEEP gouges in the left fender (must be sanded and repainted)

Scratches on hood (cant be buffed out)

Scratches on passenger side (cant be buffed out)

FRONT BUMPER IS GLUED ON!!!!!!!

Interior has touch up paint all over the place.

TOTAL TO REPAIR CAR IS OVER $2500.00

So, I call the guy... MIKE and say "Wow, whats going on here? This car isn't at all what you described" and I went through the list of issues. Needless to say, the conversation didn't go as expected. He flat out refused to help me. You know what he said about the rims? He said, "This is New York, we don't care about rims". Oh, whatever!!!

I took the car to the body shop for repairs. The estimate to repair the damage was $1200.00. UGH So I take the car to the repair shop and a few hours later, I get a call from the repair center. We cant remove the fender to sand and paint it because THE FRONT BUMPER IS GLUED ON! There are NO brackets holding it on, just glue! What??? OH, AND BY THE WAY, THERE IS BONDO ALL OVER THE HOOD. Ummm, the seller MIKE WITH FATHER AND SON AUTO didn't tell me about that either!!!

I cant even guess as to how much is will cost to have the glued on bumper removed. The shop said if they remove it, they might not be able to get it back on and then I would be looking at buying a new bumper for it. Oh this just keeps getting better!!!

These guys wont return my calls OR the 3 or 4 e mails I have sent asking/begging for some assistance with the repair.

Make sure to go to my Father and Son Auto Blog to read the story. www.fatherandsonauto.blogspot.com

We bought a car from this facility 4/08. Everything was represented to be true. It was the best experience I ever had when purchasing a used car. The warranty for used cars in the state of NY is 90 for power train and major defects like that. I would NEVER purchase a used vehicle sight unseen as your remedies are limited. However, if you have the ad stating that it was still under warranty by BMW and they have falsified the condition of the car in the ad, I would send a complaint to the Attorney General's office. Father and Son is very careful as to the cars they get (low mileage and cars in demand only). They've been doing this for over 25 years and I am one happy customer. I'm going to see them tomorrow for an oil change (on the house ;) ) and to replace a brake light bulb that went out this week (I picked up the bulb today). When I originally went there, I tried to "trick them" with a bunch of maneuvers, but they were steady and came through as they promised. Next time, see the car before you buy AND take it to a mechanic for an objective opinion on the condition. It's worth the $300 or so to pay a friend to look at the car and pay the mechanic to check the car over.

a car, sight unseen, is beyond me-especially a USED car. If you still have a copy of the ad, you might make a complaint with the NY State AG office (you can do this online.) You might also consult an attorney to determine what legal remedies might be available to you.

Father & Son Auto - I must clarify my statement PLEASE READ THIS UPDATE

#9Author of original report

Sat, August 09, 2008

I did not buy the car DIRECTLY from Father & Son Auto. Please read below: My friend who is a manager for a car dealership in Florida was trying to help me buy a car wholesale. We called Father and Son Auto to work out a price. Father and Son Auto wouldn't sell the car DIRECTLY to me for wholesale price, he said we could hit the "buy it now" button on line and he would send the BMW back through the auction for us to buy! So yes, you can say I did not buy it directly from him. Once again, I must clarify the fact that I did not purchase the car directly from FATHER AND SON AUTO. None of this changes the fact that it was the FALSE ADVERTISING in his ad that helped me decide to buy that car!
