TO ALL:

I purchased a puppy from Karen DeAngelo at Gloryrige shihtzus in June of 2003. Karen was not easy to work with. Unfortunately I paid her half of the purchase price which was $700, this included shipping so when I was having second thoughts about buying from Karen, it was too late as she would not give me a refund. I had decided I wanted to use another breeder, my gut was telling me I had made the wrong choice in breeders, and I was correct.

When my pup was shipped to me, (Florida) the pup seemed to not act as a puppy should. My puppy, named Benson, was cute, but his little rear end had dried feces which I am sure was NOT from just the flight. I had to cut it off of him and there was no way this could have been this hard in a matter of a few hours.

When I finally got his rear cleaned up, he pooped like you would not believe. Poor little guy, he was not kept clean and its a wonder he was still alive. After that, he seemed ok but his poop seemed funny so the next morning off we went to the vet. He was FULL of worms and coccidia. My vet was very upset at this little guys breeder which is Karen DeAngelo. He gave me some medicine for the coccidia, and wormed him again. Then he went to check him over good. He could tell he had been neutered and told me I should turn this breeder in for animal abuse. He explained that a pup could be neutered at 12 weeks at the earliest, but this was obviously done at 6 or 7 weeks old.

He had an infection in his private area where the surgery was performed that I did not notice. Thank GOD my vet is so wonderful. He wiped the pus that was seeping from his private area, and gave me an antibotic.

My vet did a full exam on Benson. He also had ear mites, and he had a runny nose. This pup was acting funny and had no energy like a normal pup, my vet then did more tests, this pup was hypoglycemic and had to have an IV inserted to keep him alive.

I was not only in tears and upset, but this vet bill came to almost $900. Of course in calling Karen DeAngelo the breeder, she called me stupid, a liar, and even with vet documents faxed to her she did nothing and became unavailable to phone calls and emails. Benson had to stay the night at my vets.

When I went back to get him the next day, he was better so we took him home, pampered him, held him all weekend and nursed him back to health. Now remember, this was in 2003.

Its now 2005, and in November my Benson was diagnosed with Renal Displasia. My baby would not live much longer. His medication came to $125 A month, and when I called Karen to let her know about him, she again said I was a whiny witch, and to leave her alone.

My Benson died this week, it was a lot more sudden than we expected, but my vet said the level of his disease was very advanced for his age. We are not only sick physically over this, but the stress level my husband and I have gone through is beyond what words can explain.

Karen is the not only cold and rude, but she has no compassion or warmth to her at all. I should have gone with my gut, and bought from another breeder that I had been considering, but I thought she was a christian, that is so untrue.

I found this site, and decided I had to share my story. We are heartbroken, and want the world to know that Gloryridge is not the breeder you should purchase a puppy from.

Karen is not loving, and she has sick dogs no matter what her website states.

We are now consulting my son, who is an attorney to move forward with this, with the proof we have, I have no doubt that Karen will be responsible for damages in more ways then one.

I know she has been to court before and lost, this I am sure will be the second time around for her.

This time however, we are going for not just the puppy price, but for major pain and suffering. I knew I had to post this today, because after tomorrow, my attorney son has said I could have no further contact with Karen, and could not post my story.

Good luck to all that search for a puppy, and please do some checking, Karens website is full of lies, and she is not a christian, but a quite the opposite.

I purchased a puppy from Karen last year. I recieved my baby on Dec. 30, 2004. He came to us smelling like he had just had a bath and in good spirits. He immediately stole my husband's heart even though he was my dog. I took him to our vet after the holiday weekend. He checked out perfectly. His nostrils are wide open which is very important in snub-nosed breeds. He had no mites, fleas, or worms. He was in excellent health. Zeus has been with us now for over a year. He is an exceptionally healthy, playful, and loving puppy. He is everything that a Shih Tzu is breed to be. I found Karen to be very pleasant to work with. I also question the validity of this report. The reporters location is listed as Tampa, Fl yet under author on the listings page is says San Diego. There have also been 2 other reports regarding Gloryridge written within the last two days. They also say the author is from San Diego yet are signed by someone in St. Louis and one actually does say San Diego. These decrepencies make it hard for me to take the author's claims seriously.

Larry and Sandy, I really hated to read that story. How horrible for a puppy to be so mistreated. That breeder should be punished, definitely. I certainly wish you luck in being compensated for your money, but I know there is nothing to be done about the pain of losing a pet that way. A suggestion, not to "replace" your Benson, but there are so many animals that need rescuing from local shelters. I got my puppy (Astro, a golden retriever mix) from the Houston SPCA, and he has been such a joy. Please update when you are able.
