Just on this site alone you will find enough evidence to realize its just a scam. As far as your situation goes, I'd suggest you have your friend try and do a chargeback (call the bank) on his credit card, and hopefully he can. If not, the only thing you can do is pay him back and let this be a lesson learned. People are drawn to this kind of stuff when they are down and out and quite vulnerable. I'm sure there is an answer to your situation, but I seriously doubt you will find it by giving a stranger money. Much luck to you and I hope your friend can do a successful chargeback.
