I filed a charge back on a company for fraud who in turn disputed it. Navy federal sent me a copy of the rebuttal with notice to reply by a certain time. I sent in my reply with delivery confirmation showing they received it 7 days before the deadline, with further documentation of this company being a scam by Navy Federal ignored my reply and gave the company back the money they stole from me.

I want to warn everybody I can to beware opening charge cards with navy federal. If you have any unauthorized charges, navy federal will NOT stand by their customer!

I also had a similar experience.  The fraud committed was blatant: a hotel jacked my billl by approximately $1000.00 two weeks after checkout.  Needless to say the new "rate" was not noted in the contract, nor did the hotel have my consent or a signature.  It simply had my credit card number, and unilaterally chose to charge it...

NFCU treated me the same way.  A letter - with a tight deadline - requiring more evidence, and then a declaration that the charge was "valid."  It's important for other Credit Union members to note: 1) NFCU didn't make this response to me via email, in the system that I initiated it.  2) I got the letter late, as I was between duty stations, and 3) the dispute specialist himself could have determined the charge fraudulent since the hotel backdated the receipt it provided to the credit union; yet the credit union is in possession - obviously - of the original charge records, and it knows exactly when the charge was or was not made.

Most absurdly, I solved the problem myself with hotel management before NFCU wrote me to let me know that it had ruled against me.  The hotel had already reversed the charge.

NFCU's incompetence in the matter was clear to me.  Equally clear to me was that if I had needed NFCU to protect my funds and credit, I would have been out of luck.  This was a 26-year account, my primary credit card, in which I racked up at least $20-$30K a year.

NFCU was not always this bad.  Its credit card division used to take care of its customers, but it has obviously made a decision that profit is more important than integrity.  I cancelled the account and now depend on USAA... no regrets.  I'd advise other NFCU members to do the same.

I banked w/ NavyFed for about 8 years, used there credit card as the #1 source of purchases everyday (about 40k a year on average). I had two incididents where I disputed charges, the first time around I was contacted directly by someone working the dispute, after explaining my side and a little back and forth phonecalls they credited my account. The second time around they didn't handle it as well, just send a letter of deciding against me - the CSR I talked to said they couldn't comment further on the issue and that the decision was final. Of course it was black and white to me, I returned the item and was still charged for it! So I pulled my direct deposit and every cent from my checking & savings, packed my bags for USAA and haven't looked back since. Since being w/ USAA I had 1 dispute for a small amount, the minimal amount of information they required to file the dispute was suprising, so was the result! About two weeks later I got the credit, no questions asked. Aside from this NavyFed used to annoy me with what seemed like frivolous fees (they charge you on top of the ATM owner for using out of network ATM's). So say you use an ATM that charges $1.50 to get $60 out, NavyFed charges you $1 on top of it, I'll take my USAA rebates and never look back. Thanks for the 8 years of service NavyFed but your service and commitment to your members comes up a little short of my expectations.

It appears that your credit union did not believe that a fraud occurred. When you say that Navy Federal ignored your reply, do you mean that it never gave you an explanation of why it decided against you? What is the name of this company? How did that company get your credit card information? What exactly did this company do to commit fraud? What documentation did you provide to Navy Federal that showed the company to be a scam? Did you file a separate Ripoff Report on this company? Some additional information would be helpful so that we can all avoid what you had to go through. Regards, Frank
