Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
1. Paula Turner falsely claims that she 'trained' Seattle Slew. She did not. This is a misrepresentation - she saddle broke him only, but we were informed that Seattle Slew was such a mess when he left her care that the track conditioners had to re-train him. Paula uses her brief experience with Seattle Slew to mis-lead admiring racehorse fans into believing that she saved him from breaking down.

2. We sent 3 yearlings to Paula, one of the fillies damaged her left shoulder under her care and we were never notified. After removing our horses from Paula's stable, the veterinarian at the new farm x-rayed the filly and notified us that the injury had been ongoing for several months. It was obvious from the horses movements that she was having difficulty and the shoulder was markedly smaller than the other and had atrophied.

3. Paula did not attempt to saddle break the horses after 8 months of residing on her property. It became apparent that we were her only customers and it is reasonable to assume that she was stringing us along to maintain her income.

4. After 8 months, the horses had not developed sufficient muscle mass to be galloped. The new breaking trainer put saddles on immediately upon arrival. The horses were very week and basically had to start their basic equitation back from the beginning.

5. We lent Paula $700 worth of digital camera equipment to film the horses progress. After 5 months she has refused to return the equipment. We went so far as to provide her with shipping containers, shipping labels with account numbers such that she would incur no shipping costs whatsoever.

6. Paula went into a rage when we notified her that we were removing the horses. She made numerous insinuations and claimed that numerous acquaintances and so called 'staff' were distraught that the horses were going to be taken away. They claimed consistently for several months and up to the day the horses were retrieved that the horses were extremely dangerous. They were not. Upon arrival to the new farm I was able to enter all of their stalls and enjoy their affections.

7. Paula claims to have a fully staffed barn. Upon arrival of the shipper to retrieve the horses, Paula was alone to greet them. She was on crutches and claimed that the colt had injured her thigh by kicking her. For a horseman of her alleged caliber, it is extraordinary that she was left without any help to turn over the horses. We suspect that it is because she didn't want anyone to see her possible bogus act of appearing on crutches.

8. Paula was extremely unprofessional in her email communications, offering long rambling rants with insinuations and veiled threats. We have saved every correspondence and are happy to share them with any horse owner considering hiring her services.

CHATHAM COUNTY COURT AGREES WITH COMPLAINT

#2Author of original report

Thu, August 02, 2012

Chatham County Court agreed with 5R Stables that Paula Turner withheld their property and ordered her to return it. She claims that it was stolen after all. Question: why didn't she tell 5R before having to go to court? 5R had asked for the property repeatedly over the course of several months but she never mentioned any problem or theft. Later, Ms. Turner offered to give a thoroughbred colt as value to replace the allegedly stolen property. 5R, through the court by notice from the Sheriff, asked for proof that Ms. Turner had the Jockey Club Foal Registration certificate in order to consummate a potential deal.

Ms. Turner never came forward with proof and never responded in any way shape or form to the request. So there was a continuum of evasion and non-communication. The most likely reason is that Ms. Turner never actually owned the colt and did not have possession of the Jockey Club registration.

After a reasonable amount of time after offering the colt, the Chatham County Court withdrew funds from Ms. Turner's personal banking account to pay for the property that she claimed was stolen. Eventually the Clerk of Court of Chatham County issued a check to 5R from the State of North Carolina for ~$700.

By the way, as a practical demonstration of the pattern of irresponsibility practiced by Ms. Turner, she told the court that she had left the property ($700 of photographic equipment) on the porch unattended so that FedEx could pick it up. The court was not impressed and ordered her to reimburse 5R Stables.

Personal Attack Not Honest Assessment

I've done some research on this case and it looks like this 'report' is more a personal attack than accurate criticism.  You can see that in the vicious tone of the writing.  I don't know what the personal issues are between the poster and Ms. Turner, but there are  many people out there who have been very happy with her work

Funny this person doesnt include all of the information about his claims. The horses he sent to Ms Turner were horribly abused by their previous owners. they were sent to Ms Turner after they had reasearched her and her abilities.

The horses he speaks of were in very bad shape upon their arrival and had very little interaction with people due to their previous lifestyle. I think the results this NEW Owner was expecting were unrealistic. I ahve been a client of Ms. Turner's for many years. She has always been straight forth and honest in my dealings with her on MANY HORSES! All of which i had very successful outcomes with.

I wonder what was this persons financial commentment was in training these horses? People who are NOT horse people should not get involved unless they are properly educated to REASONABLE outcome. I hope their dreams arent dashed when these horses regardless of who trains them are unable to meet their expectations.

Also lets keep in mind these were RESCUED horses...involved in a HUMANE case and thus the owners are seeking attention.
I find it odd Ms Turner has trained hundreds of horses in her lengthy career and this person is the only one I find on the net tooting a horn.
