I purchased a Samsung 906BW monitor that was advertised with a $40 rebate as a gift on 12-31-07 at Circuit City. I obviously do not have the barcode and upc labels off the box as this was a gift. The rebate customer servcie phone center representatives are telling me I can not recieve the rebate because I don't have the labels from the box. I tried to explain to them that this was a gift and they are saying I still need the labels from the box. Samsung is just trying to get out of paying rebates to consumers. If my purchase was a gift how do they expect me to cut out pieces of the box. Clearly I have the receipt showing that the monitor was purchased within the dates the offer was being offered so therefore it should be honored. How do I get my rebate? Purchase ticket # XXXXXXXXXXXX.

Okay, you didn't specify in your original post what you had done to try and rectify the situation. You just bitched about it. We were offering some suggestions which we had no way of knowing you had tried. As for the "principal" of the thing, well, Samsung isn't doing anything underhanded or illegal or ripping you off. If you had read the terms of the rebate, you would have known that you needed the UPC code. If you were so concerned with getting that rebate, you could have asked the recipient for the box back after they opened it, or asked them to send the UPC code to you before they threw the box away.

Why didn't I think of that!

Geez, you all must just be so d**n smart!! Of course I asked the person for the upc labels, they had already thrown the boxes away. No! I would never cut out the labels and then wrap it as a gift, that is tacky!! Don't criticize me for making a fuzz about $40 dollars. I work hard to earn my money. The thing is, it's the principal. I purchased it becuase they advertised a rebate! BTW, customer is spelled with a u not an o!

Shirley, You are making a big fuss over $40. Apparently, you do not understand how rebates for electronic items work. Tell the person that you gave the Samsung monitor to as a gift about the rebate offer and let him/her apply for the $40 rebate. In December 2006, my brother had given me an Acomdata 320GB external hard drive as a Christmas present. My brother included the gift receipt along with the rebate application which was printed from the Fry's Electronic's cash register. I sent the actual UPC from the hard drive box along with the gift receipt and the rebate application. A couple of months later, I received the $20 rebate.

Is there a way that you could go and get the UPC label from the box from the person that you gave the monitor to, or have them send it to you? (Of course that would be rather tacky, in my opinion). Samsung isn't ripping you off however. Almost every rebate situation requires a UPC label. You should have read the rebate requirements before wrapping the monitor and you would have known. It would have been clearly stated on your rebate receipt.

almost all rebates require upc code to be sent with the receipt. stores give two receipts (one for rebate and one for costomers records) a costomer wanting to ripoff the rebate department could send in the rebate receipt and then return the product to the store for a refund with the comstomer receipt. that's why they require the upc code off the box. i always pull the upc off the box and get the seriel number off the product before i wrap it.
