I visited the Tire Works "Total Car Care" location at Silverado and Maryland on 3/27 for a simple oil change on my 1998 Volvo S70 T5.  First, the guy (Casey) told me I needed new tires (I'm pretty good with those -- I have at least 5000 miles left on my current tires and he told me, "You're all the way down to the wear bar!"  If you're familiar with the "penny test," I performed that I my satisfaction.  I'm not driving around on bald tires.

I left the keys with the guy and walked across the street to get a pedicure.  Ten minutes later, the same guy calls me and says that my rear brake pads are "paper thin" and told me I needed entirely new brakes and rotors.  Casey already told me they would not be performing their regular "free" tire rotation due to the "condition" of my tires, so I asked him why he took the tires off my car.  He replied that he hadn't.  I asked Casey how he could give me such detailed information without removing the tires, and he became obviously flustered and said that they had simply performed a "very brief inspection."  The funny bit that Casey DIDN'T know was that I just had a $1700 repair on my ABS done by Volvo of Las Vegas.  They assured me my brakes were in good condition... you'd think they would have taken the chance to charge me for replacing them if they weren't, right?

The kicker was when I got in my car after paying for my oil change -- there was a weird sweaty smell.  I thought it would go away, but the next morning, I found a nasty sweaty back brace belt in the backseat of my car.  Why are these dudes taking off their back braces in my car?  I threw it away.  I hope it costs them more than the $40 I spent on the oil change to replace it.

I emailed their company with this same complaint, but discovered afterward that they were sued by the Nevada AG last year for fraudulent business practices.  It figures -- I'll never go there again and I will tell this story to EVERYONE I know.
