Yew Tree Digital & Nick Shaw - Watch Out!



Nick Shaw of Yew Tree Digital in Ipswich, England signed up for Elance as a provider and their account was cancelled by Elance within a month or two. This likely has something to do with them not fulfilling their obligations to the 20 or so customers that they quickly signed up for projects.



I was one of their customers and here is what happened to me. Nick Shaw, the owner, asked for funds to be released out of escrow for 1/3 of the work up front for a web project that he promised to do for me. This amounted to $650.00 US.



He was new on Elance, but his domain name at YewTreeDigital.com was a few years old and seemed to offer a lot of services. I liked the web designs on his site that his company had supposedly done. I overlooked the fact that he had only a few months track record on Elance and had hardly earned any money. He communictead well and sweet talked me into signing with him.



Huge mistake! Foolishly, before any work was performed, I released funds from escrow for 1/3 (or $650) of the project at Nick Shaw's request. I was unemployed at the time and this was a very big deal for me. As soon as funds were released, communication went drastically downhill. Over and over again I asked for my money back because he was well behind schedule and I wouldn't hear from him for 3 to 5 days at a time. I live in the U.S. and having foolishly released my escrow money and having such poor communication made me incredibly uneasy.



Every so often he would have a decent conversation with me and assure me that things would get back on track since he just had a baby. That might be true, but a company needs to plan for such things and have a staff that will fill in and communicate while he's away. Besides, he has a Blackberry where all the email is directed to. How hard is it to shoot off an email?



Regardless, after numerous promises to communicate better, move on my project and make things right, Nick could not or would not deliver. I gave him easily about 5 or 6 chances. Every time, he would disappoint. He couldn't communicate consistently or follow through on his promises, ever! It was unbelievably aggravating.



I asked for my money back numerous times and each time he assured me communication would improve and that the project could and would get done. Right now, I've spent $650 on a project that's barely been started after over 4 weeks when I should have already received a beta version.



I asked for my money back and as of right now, he has not returned it.



STAY FAR AWAY FROM NICK SHAW AND YEW TREE DIGITAL. YOU DON'T WANT ANY DEALINGS WITH THIS COMPANY!
