Just a hint for those looking for employment in the gaming industry...

DO NOT APPLY AT THE AKWESASNE MOHAWK CASINO!

Not only dose the gamming license take about 5 -6 months but if your hired as a dealer, prepare for unfair working conditions and wages. What was once a family orintated business where "your needs come first" has now deminished to a "..stay home only if your on your death bed.."

The 'local' natives are trying to run the joint, and when things go wrong they plea 'sovern immunity' to bail themselves out. The casino has only been opened for two years and has since seen a General Manager to actually work a full years worth. And you know somethings up when you have your top people (such as Shift Bosses, upper managment directors and various supervisors) all pack up and leave for different casinos.

This place is so cheap, that a player is considered a 'high roller' if they bet more than $100. I know of other casinos that wait till you start playing $1000 before you get noticed, but here... forget it. They don't want you to win a dime.

And the slot machines! What a joke these things are. You might as well download a bingo game off yahoo if you wnat bingo style action. The casino's slot machines are hard to use and not very convient. These slots, called Viedo Lottery Terminals, are mostly a touch-screen interactive game. They ONLY accept paper money and print out ALL winnings. Even if you win 50 cents, you have to get a ticket and redeem this AT THE CAGE. You cannot use the ticket in another machine.

There is NO HOTEL, yet this casino is located smack dab in the middle of nowhere. Who wants to travel 10 miles to stay in MOTEL that has farm country air blowing in the window in the morning.

The list goes on, but if the Mohawks think they can open the worlds next biggest casino located down in the Catskills, they better think of just sitting under the teepee and let the pros manage the house.

Akwesasne Mohawk Casino - A good place to go for entertainment and be treated right

I am not a regular gambler but have been to the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino on a few occassions. Even though I am not a "regular" guest, I have always been treated with the upmost respect from the moment I walk through the door. Every staff member that I have been in contact with has been friendly and helpful to me. They've taken the time to show me how to work the slot machines, they take the time to ask how I'm doing, they take the time to see if I need anything. I've heard others say that it's not a "real" casino, that if you want to go to a real casino you need to go to Atlantic City or Las Vegas. Well those of us that live paycheck to paycheck can't afford to go to those places - and to us it is a real casino. It's bright, it's friendly, it's fun and it's entertaining. It doesn't make a difference if you are playing the nickle machines or the dollar machines you are treated the same. I've been to a few private parties there as well and I might add that this casino has done an excellent job with the catering of those parties. The employees there have always been nothing but accommodating to me and my family when we've had a party there. In all honesty, I have been to the casino with friends when I didn't have a dime to my name and I just watched them gamble. How many other places will let you stand around and watch other people gamble without you spending a dime. Not many I'm sure. If you ever get the chance to come to the North Country - make sure you make a stop at the casino. You'll get great entertainment, get treated right and maybe even walk away a winner! Thanks for reading.

OMG !!! 5 months later & they still have light bulbs out !!! I think this is A "Third World Approach". ( Maybe they'll feel sorry for them indians, & donate light bulbs ) NEW CASINO, ??? Dayum, from the lousy paint jobs, the scrapes & smudges on the walls you'd think they'd hire more maintenance ppl. before they flood the place with security goons. Not, to mention the RAISED ELECTRICAL BOXES that Waiter's & Customers tripped over in the show room. Hey, how about them "HOLEY" tables ???? Another "Downhome & Friendly" approach ?? What about THE "HOTEL" ??? Isn't it better to give ppl. a CHANCE to "GET AWAY". The dealers are tought to PAY in LARGER denominations, WHY ??? Or that dingy lighting ?? Gee, is this a "LOVE DEN" ?? Or A place of Entertainment ?? Maybe, training the managers to do thier Jobs !!! "Uncle Bucky", C'mon dude it's 2002, Not the "Back Home" poor lil Indians of the 40's. And what ever happened to the GRIEVANCE COMMITTEE You suggested at the Tribal Meeting in January ??? Did ya get slapped Down ??? Was your Job Threatened ??? Or was just Just "Good Community Relations" ????? GAWD, No Iced Tea for the graduates ??? Sheesh, it's supposed to be a FULL SERVICE CASINO. What Do they teach in "CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING" ???? Advocate, Hmmmmmm, I dunno, I think ya Hadda Do it Ta save yur Job, Even if Ya are the best Casino Host On the EAST COAST !!!

They filed the following rebuttal to the above Rip-Off Report: Their email: [email protected] Their name: @Rebuttal_Name@ Their relationship to the company: Consumer Suggestion Rebuttal: I have been to the Akwesasne Casino several times and they do have some good points. It is nice to be noticed even if you are a small player and are not playing $1,000 hands of blackjack. I have played the video slot machine and for the most part if you are a usual at the casino you get noticed no matter what you are playing and they call you by your first name, and make it appoint to get to know you. Yes there are some down falls to this casino, but the personalities that the majority of the dealers have make up for these little things. My only question is who is actually paying for all the state employees that are employed by the casino? is it the tribe? or is it the tax payers of New York State?. After all the article that I have read in regards to this casino and the Tribe itself, I believe that the payroll for the state of new york is a burden to the Tax Payers and not the Tribe. I also believe that the Tribe should be paying for these State Employees. Remember the State of New York is allowing the gaming to go on.

Akwesasne Mohawk Casino unfair with employees and guests (#5495)

Rebuttal:

To Whom it may concern, my name is Lawrence Cook and I'm a Casino
Host here at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino. I've been here since the opening of this casino. I have just read your "Hint for those looking for gaming industry employment.", and my response is this...The time it takes to recieve a Gaming License is no where near what you have stated. When we first opened it did take several months to recieve a license. That's because of the large response. Several hundred people applying all at once
does tend to congest things a little. Plus, the back ground check takes some time. We DO NOT want just anyone working here, as no company would.

You sound like a person who has possibly worked here before or at
least tried to. For what ever reason your not here, now, and I'm sure you feel it's our fault. But for now, let's take a closer look at your ramblings...

We are still very family orientated. We have many guests and
associates here who feel this way. I'm not speaking for everyone or pretend to! I am simply speaking from what I feel and know. "Local natives are trying to run the joint", is your next intelligent statement. Maybe you should try to stop smoking them (joints!). How would you like to have a business where everyone and their mother told YOU what to do. Yes,we have had a few general managers through our doors. Five to be exact! We
have had associates leave, many people for many reasons. Some have come back or at least have tried to come back. As any new company starts out, it has to live and learn.

So we're not trying to make excuses, just trying to make it! You say we are "Cheap", a $100.00 player is considered a high roller. You say other casinos require a "$1000.00 player" to get noticed. The truth is, not everyone can play a $1000.00, BUT, you don't need that much to be noticed here. You don't even need to play a $100.00 to get noticed here.
To the guests and I that is a real plus. Everyone is treated very well here. I've always said, "It doesn't matter if you have a $100,000.00 or worked a thousand hours to make a $100.00, you are a person before you're anything when you walk through our doors and you deserve to be treated as a person, as our Guest. I feel sorry for any casino and its guests who don't share the same belief.

Our Video slots are VERY entertaining. I agree, they are not as
popular as the "One Arm Bandits", but still many of our guests enjoy them.

I'm sure they're a little more confusing then your "Nintendo system",which you probably still haven't figured out! So, instead of crying about it online, simply ask someone for help. You should never pay to learn how to play.

You are right(for once),there is no hotel located at our casino. We are in the land of "Cows and Plows", this is true, but we do have several hotels within a 5 to 15 minute radius of the casino. We have accounts with these hotels for comping our guests. Many older and larger casinos have JUST completed
their hotels...it does take time. And even with all those fancy shows and hotels and machines etc., I still have many, many guests who live only a few minutes from these casinos, and they still drive an hour or two to be with us. They don't come because they're needed, it IS because they're wanted. They are here because they want to be, not have to be.

As you've said in your statement, "the list goes on", thank god YOU didn't!

IF YOU DID work here you probably know who I am. I don't kiss a*s to anyone. I simply respect what I do. I am the best at it. As for the Mohawks (us) making it work in Southern NY, I think we'll be just fine...
and as for us living in "Tee Pees", it'll take a little more to know us as "INDIANS" than watching "Dances With Wolves" a couple of times...so Take Care "Dumb Bear".

Sincerely
Your Host...
Lawrence W Cook(Uncle Buck).
