It's become clear over the past 2+ months that AMR just doesn't plan to provide my medical records as legally required.

The emergency personnel are great, but the folks back at the office are shirking their responsibilities. I keep getting the run-around after mailing my request for medical records on April 15, 2015.  They admit that my request began "processing" on May 11.  (I think you have to follow up with a phone call in order for them to start processing  your request.)  

On June 22, 2015 and they told me they couldn't even bring up my request on their computer screens.  But they did admit that they can still see that my request began processing on May 11.  They asked me to mail a new request to a new address: P. O. Box 554120,  Los Angeles, CA 90074.  So I did.

Perhaps they have a policy of ignoring requests until the patient jumps through a certain number of hoops.  Or maybe they don't plan to give me my records at all--even though the law requires it.

Today the "Patient Advocate" called me, and asked me to resubmit my request for records by FAX--along with my ID.  So I prepared the documents and tried to FAX--but the machine doesn't answer!  It's not simply busy, it just doesn't pick up.

What a surprise, right?

Also, the "patient advocate" gave me her phone number, but (I hope you're sitting down when you read this) she doesn't answer either!

The score I'm giving them is for illegal handling of medical records, not problematic emergency care.

My family and I are going through something similar with this company, except it's for a ride that my son took from the hospital he was born in to a NICU 15 minutes away. They never filed the claim with my insurance within the 6 month time limit, but did send me to "collections" (Bay Area Credit Service) after 2 months because they did not have my apartment number in my address that I very clearly listed on on all of my paperwork. We just started receiving calls from the collections company last week almost 3 years after my son was born. After reading all of these reports I feel compelled to put this scam to rest once and for all. Would you be interested in joining me in a class action lawsuit against American Medical Response? The patient advocate helped me submit my 3rd request.  My FAX wasn't working, so she gave me an email address and then called me back to say she had received my scanned request. So the FAX problem wasn't AMR's fault.

But I won't hold my breath waiting for the medical records.  I'll just wait and see if they send them.
