Warning! Chase Bank will charge you for fraudulent purchases made on your account. Beware! Take your business elsewhere.

Chase Bank is trying to make me pay for a $1,200 fraudulent purchase on my account. I alerted them immediately to the fraud. They temporarily removed it from my account, but then after doing an “investigation” they say I “benefited from the transaction.” Utterly false. This charge was made at a store that I don't even shop at.

Chase has provided no information to support their decision. When I try to call them and speak to a manager with authority they refuse to escalate the call. The employees are completely unhelpful and useless. Everyone associate tries to transfer it to another department. I have spoken with the fraud department, the payments department, customer service and collections. Every department refuses to help.

I think the retailer pushed back on Chase because they didn't want to eat the big charge-back and Chase is trying to push this back on me. I think they are trying to preserve funds to offset COVID-19 losses. They are in violation of the law and they don't care.

Do yourself a big favor and close your accounts with Chase if you are an existing customer. This could happen to you too! There are numerous good banks around that are honest and operate in good faith, Chase Bank is not one of them. Avoid Chase at all costs.

Nice thought, but when you filed a dispute, Chase went to that merchant's bank and requested proof for validity of the transaction from the merchant.  If the merchant didn't follow procedure for the transaction they can "push back" all they want, but they will still be held liable.

If somehow Chase is liable for the money, the amount is nothing more than a "rounding error" to them. Oh and before you say.."Well what if this happened to 10,000 people". Banks deal in BILLIONS, that would still not show up as anything more than a little blip.

They are in violation of the law and they don't care.

- What SPECIFIC law are they violating.

Now, you left some very key details out about the specifics of the charge. Was this charge made by someone you know? Was this charge made with your physical card? If you don't have the card did you report the card stolen? You suggest that this was a credit not debit purchase, but was a PIN involved in this transaction? You say it was made at a store you don't even shop at, was this store local or out of your area?

How was the transaction done? Was it done as credit or as a debit with the PIN used? The reason I ask is if the pin was used banks hold that you need to protect the card number and the PIN. Banks know that the card number can be compromized a lot of ways.

But is a fraudelant transaction goes through with the PIN the bank will hold that since you didn't protect the PIN that the charge is valid. What did Chase tell you as the reason they didn't agree with the fraud claim?
