CHASE BANK COLLECTING AND WITHHOLDING SOCIAL SECURITY AND VETERANS DISABILITY CHECKS ILLEGALLY AFTER LOCKING ACCOUNT WITHOUT MY CONSENT My chase account over 15 years was hacked. When I noticed the bank had moved $3000 from my checking to savings I immediately moved it back and changed my user name and password.

The following day the bank said it prevented a $1000 dollar withdrawal and another for $200 +. The Bank then locked my account and told me to contact the fraud department, which I did. After an hour of verifying who I was the fraud manager told me to contact another number to set up a new account the next day.

I followed his advice and was told they would not open another checking and savings account for me, and that I had to come in to a local branch. I retired overseas 8 years ago and have thus far transacted all my money transfers online. The cost of flying back to the US is prohibitive since I live on $700 social security and $300 disability veterans pension.

My 94 year old mother was a signer on the account and held a complete Power of Attorney, which chase refused to accept in order to open a new account in my name. So chase opened an account in her name with my social security checks and VA disability checks going into her account WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. And even now chase refuses to allow me access to my own money going into another persons account.

That should be illegal, if it isn't already. This situation really needs to be remedied ASAP. Sincerely Martin D. Skei

For that reason I will accept no further rebuttals from anyone except a Chase bank representative.

You seem to get upset at Chase for stopping a case of ID Theft when your account was hacked. Then you get upset with Chase for further protecting you by requring you come into a branch to do the new account. Your reason is that you are overseas. While agreed that this is an inconvienence for you, think about it from the flip side. Say a person called them up and gave them the same story, had paperwork(due to ID Theft) that would make it look like they were you, and then Chase opened up a new account and transfered all your money. Would you let Chase "off the hook"?

However, the narrative you have posted seems to indicate something you may not want to think about. Your mom opened a new account in her name, but she can't contact the Social Security Agency to change the direct deposit information. Who changed it to the new account? If she used her POA to do that, then she did something you gave her the permission to do through the POA, and you will probably need to contact the SSA  to get that fixed.

As for the new account, the only way you don't have access to that account is if your mom doesn't give you the information to access the account.
