Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
Okay, so ezpass has a monopoly in our area. If you want to go quickly through tolls, you MUST use them. In my area, South Jersey, there are a LOT of tolls as well as a LOT of traffic. It was great having EZPass until they screwed us.

If your tag does not work, you run the toll without a tag, or you don't have cash linked to your account, you will receive a bill for the toll plus a service fee. In our case, we had something 'different' happen to us. First, the toll is $3 with a $25 service fee. However, IF you have a valid tag, you can give that info on the back and they will remove the $25 fee so you still only pay the price of the toll.

So, here is what happened to us and why I am accusing them of theft, fraud and unethical practices.

My husband got a tag for his motorcycle and I had one for my car. On 2 different occasions, my husband's tag did not read. So, when the bills came in, we filled out the tag # and account info and authorized the $3 to be taken from our account. Then, a couple of weeks later, we received the bills again, and again, and AGAIN. They never applied the info to the back. So, I called and they said they would take care of it. They never did. I called REPEATEDLY, asked to speak to supervisors who NEVER seemed to be available. They told me a supervisor would call me and they never did.

But, this is not the half of it.

We authorized EZPass to automatically withdraw $30 a month for tolls. Now, a few times we went on trips that involved more tolls. Because of this, EZPass thought is was now okay to change our auto deduction from thirty a month to SEVENTY DOLLARS A MONTH. We didn't budget for this, we didn't AUTHORIZE this! Because of this we went negative in our account and ended up owing $147 because little things from Wawa (a convenience store) bounced giving us a ton of $35 overdraft fees.

WHO GAVE THEM THE RIGHT TO DECIDE HOW MUCH WE GIVE THEM A MONTH?!?!?

We only authorized $30 not $70. And they feel they can change the amount whenever they think it needs changing. God forbid they withdraw more than once in a month or send us a bill for the difference.

BUT WAIT, it gets better

So, if you don't have money in your account, most places will try another 1 - 3 times to withdraw the money. Not EZPASS, no, they go a step further. THEY DELETE YOUR CARD FROM THE FILES THE FIRST TIME IT IS DECLINED. So, the second time they tried to take more than $30 from our account, we did not have those extra funds available. However, we didn't know that they had tried to take that amount and we went thru EZPass as always. The display read, CALL EZPASS. This meant we ran the toll. Confused, we called and that is how we found out our card had been deleted.

So, same bill comes in, we fill out the info, send it back and guess what happens??

Yep, go to above, more bills, phone calls, and NOTHING getting fixed.

I REFUSE to pay them $90 something dollars when I only owe them NINE DOLLARS. It is their fault ALL AROUND that I am in this situation. The tags should have worked EVERY time (the bridges here are not straight drive thru, you MUST stop so its not like he was speeding and the reader couldn't read the tag), They SHOULD NOT Delete your card, they should have fixed the bills in the first place, and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, they should NOT have the ability to take more money than I gave permission to take!!!!

I am in collections right now with NO INTENTION of paying them. They are only owed $9 and I will gladly pay that IF and WHEN my EZPASS is reinstated and it is off of my credit report. I will NEVER give them the extra eighty some dollars they are asking because it is THEFT. I find it ridiculous that a government agency can get away with this BS and unethically driven business practices. Maybe its just laziness on the part of the customer service reps, I don't know, but I should not have to be dealing with this.

So for now, I hope there isn't much traffic and sit in line at the cash lanes. If someone can help fix this organization, please contact me. And, if similar things have happened to you, please let me know as well. A class action lawsuit may be the only option. $90 bucks may not be a lot to you, but I was unemployed all summer so its a TON to me.

I agree that DRBA and NJEZpass need an administrative change.  My story:

My husband's truck was parked at a well known park n ride in DE and his license plate was stolen.  The person who stole the license plate proceeded (daily) to drive through the EZ Pass at the DE Memorial Bridge.  Each time, we received a violation in the mail.  Each time we called and faxed over the police report stating that the license plate had been stolen.

On each violation there was a picture of the vehicle- a green mini van.  My husband drives a white Dodge pick up truck.  The EZPass facility insisted that the violations were sent out automatically, but you would think after 20 violations, they would investigate?  No, they continued to send out violations 10 months after the theft occurred.  At one point, they cancelled our EZPass for outstanding violations.  I called and called; wrote letters; spoke with supervisors...no action taken by the EZPass representatives.

Finally, a year later, EZPass contacted the local police and had them stake out the green mini van (which, by the way, passed through the same time every day for 12 months) and finally caught the violator.

Their inability to stop the invoices and their inability to react in a timely manner rather than harrassing the customer was inexcusable.  EZPass is very well established and should be able to correct situations like this.

Needless to say, we still use the service only because we have no better choice.  If we choose to pay the tolls without the discount, we would pay 2 times as much.
