I bought a 65" Mitsubishi in 08/2007 from HH Gregg with a 3-year extended warranty.  I started seeing black and white spots in 2010, but thought it was normal for an LCD screen.  In 2011, the spots were increasingy extensive.  It is now interfering with seeing images on the screen. Mitsubishi's  subcontractor wanted $150.00 service charge, which I couldn't afford to pay, since I'm a retired 67 year old widow living on a small fixed income.

I paid a noncontractor, who was once their subcontractor, $89.95 for a service charge and he stated that the problem was the light engine and because it was so expensive, he knew of a client with the same problem and Mitsubishi replaced the TV.

Due to my income, they agreed to pay the service charge for their subcontractor, who diagnosed the same problem and further stated that it was a defective computer chip in the light engine.  Mitsubishi initially agreed to pay for the part only, but after several calls, they agreed to pay for half of the service call or $150.00.  Since the defective part went bad while it was under warranty, I wouldn't have a labor charge if it were not for a defective part.  They should pay for the part and the entire labor charge as well or $300.00.

" I bought a 65" Mitsubishi in 08/2007 from HH Gregg with a 3-year extended warranty.  "

I would expect that means the warranty expired in August of 2010.

"   In 2011, the spots were increasingy extensive.  "

It would seem from your post that you didn't report this problem for warranty service until after the warranty had expired.

As I see it, they do not actually owe you anything under the warranty and they are being exceedingly generous in offering you anything at all.   You've got a lot of nerve to call them a ripoff.

What does your warranty say about who pays...

parts and who pays labor? Often they are different intervals.

"I couldn't afford to pay, since I'm a retired 67 year old widow living on a small fixed income. "

Perhaps one on a small fixed income shouldn't own such a potentially expensive to maintain set.

This set also uses a projection lamp that is probably at least $300 to replace when it goes out, and it will.

Will you expect Mitsubishi to pay for that too, when it happens?  A warranty is an agreement by the mfr to fix manufacturing and parts defects for the term of the agreement.  They can't just extend it to accomodate future problems which always occur with ANY man made product.

"I started seeing black and white spots in 2010, but thought it was normal for an LCD screen."

"..the problem was the light engine.."

LCD tvs don't have light engines, projection sets do and are more costly to maintain.

My best guess is they're being generous with you...your financial problems are NOT their problem. Being older (like me) and on a fixed income (like me) is NOT relevant at all.

They are offering to pay for the part and 1/2 the service call for a 4 year old TV that is out of warranty...That is a VERY good deal because they are actually not obligated to pay for anything.

he knew of a client with the same problem and Mitsubishi replaced the TV.

- And my brothers, cousin, next door neighbors co-worker told me that they even upgrade it to a new 80" LCD with 3-D capability and will pay you an extra $1000 dollars for your troubles.

Do you happen to get the point of that statement?

Yes I know you are special because you are on a fixed income so they should treat you differently because everyone knows that warranties ONLY apply to people who don't have a fixed income.

But that still does not explain how you had the TV for 3 years without spots and then all of the sudden to start seeing spots..yet think it was normal?  Did your age or lack of income cause you to not report it while it was under warranty?

Oh and while you are trying to play the sympathy card with your situation it really is hard to swallow when you are talking about a 65" TV.
